Anyone out there recommend a state park (or other park) to stay at on Lake Travis? Wife and I are on vacation next month.

I saw that Pedernales Falls and McKinney Falls are notated on TP&W website. However, their map does not indicate that they are on Lake Travis.

Looking for a site with power/water and nearby lake access would be appreciated. Would like to beach the boat and walk to site if available.

I would prefer to use state parks as I have a pass.

Thanks! smile

Mike,

Sorry, no State Parks actually on Lake Travis. I'm sure there are campgrounds, just not state parks. The two you mentioned are fairly close, but you would have to drive over to Travis. In that area, Inks Lake SP would be a good choice. There are several State Parks in that Hill Country area. You might just have to look somewhere other than Lake Travis.

I visited Pedernales Falls last month but was not camping. It is a neat park for sure. The park is about 8 miles outside Johnson City on a FM/RM road and the entrance is another 3 miles off of that main road.
While at the office, I overheard the lady tell another visitor that they are full every weekend.
We were there on a Tuesday and at lunch my family and I were the only people in the entire picnic area above the swimming area.
It would be a great park to get away from it all but it would be miles from Lake Travis and if you forgot something in town, well it's along way to get a loaf of bread.
Inks Lake is also a fine park and closer to Lake Travis but still a good distance away.

Here's some parks that belong to LCRA that are operated by Travis County

Pace bend is really great, some good fishing close, not to far from the colorado river or the perdenalis.

Thanks to all for the input. I'll check out Pace Bend and others on the link that TBill provided.

It's not on Lake Travis, but lake Austin has Emma Long park. Run by the city, it has full hookups right on the water, and this time of year is practically deserted. There were only two campsites occupied this morning. You can either launch on Lake Austin and keep your boat tied up at your campsite, or trailer 4 miles or so to Travis.
