March 7, 2014 Cold morning, beautiful afternoon, a little breezy east wind. Still mostly Speckled Trout main item on the menu. North end of Sabine Lake is still the breeding grounds for Speckled Trout. Today was the first Grand Slam in a while. Specks in the north, Redfish and Flounder on the Louisiana Shoreline. Two Flounder within about 10 minutes, and one was huge. There is your sign of the Spring Flounder Run. It either already started, or it is fixing to. The Speckled Trout are not all in one place, rather in scattered schools all over the North End. Soft Plastics work well. For those that use Live Shrimp, this is the first time in a while that I used a few to actually catch or feed some Trout. It has been a while since live shrimp were of much use. But, with the water and the fish warming up, it is not a total waste buying them.

Interesting you should mention the Flounder Run. I was pleasantly surprised with a 12 inch Flounder while fishing a park on Cedar Bayou in Baytown. Don't know if the run is on yet, but they are starting to trickle in.

I would love to give Sabine Lake a try, I have a Pro Team 175 Bass Tracker. Would it be safe to take that boat out on the Lake?

It's all about the wind....the timing....many people have fished out of smaller rigs. Just have to consider where you launch and fish in case it gets rough. I rely on the local weather forecasts for wind/temp.

Conditions have changed alot since March 7th when this was written. Toledo Bend is releasing water and the lake is getting fresh and muddy.
