I will be in San Antonio early May. I really want to catch some Red Drum. Which lake do you recommend Calaveras or Braunig? Any hot lures or bait during early May? Can I catch Red Drum if I bring chestwaders? Is there a a.m. or p.m. bite? Any help would be appreciated.

Personnally I've done better at Calaveras. I've never fished for Reds from the bank but I have seen people do O.K. near the boat ramp on the dam side using a silver spoon. If you can get a boat ride from someone to the "crappie wall" (a few hundred yards from the boat ramp) you should have better luck for Reds. If I'm out there I'll give you a lift! Good Luck!

Luna tic2, sure nice of you to offer me a lift. I have actually brought people fishing with me in my boat in Minnesota that I had met fishing at the landing. My wife thinks I am crazy but I say fishing people are generally good people. I brought a young dad out with his 5 year old one time and the little guy caught his first northern pike (about 4 lbs). They took about ten pictures and the young boy was so excited. I bet I am in their family photo album. I consider that to be an honor. Thanks again for the advice and let me know if you are willing to taking out a visitor. Thanks and happy fishing.
