I was wanting to get the Canon D30 as a camera to use without worrying about it getting dunked. Anyone use this camera? It is the only one listed on a rewards programme for me.

Should do a fine job for you. Plenty of MPs for image quality. Waterproof to 82 feet. Should be a good little camera. Here is a little more on the camera for you.

I got an Olympus. Had it for years. Pays for itself first time you grab it with wet hands.

They have since upgraded mine. I got the mid grade. Down to 10' of water, drop resistant to 5', dust and sand proof. Buddy of mine had to one up me and get the 30' deep. LOL! Knowing good and well he will never be 30' under the water!! He doesn't dive. LOL! And I know he sure can't hold his breathe that long.

The manual shows it having a threaded screwhole mount for a tripod. Use a float if it isn't in your way; I've nearly dropped mine overboard a few times. I've also neglected to secure it in the pocket on my PFD once, and id dropped into the seat. Also, see if the camera actually floats. I had an older camera float out of my cargo pocket while I was wading; I just happened to notice it drifting away. Never would have thought that a camera would float......

Thanks for the reply BBT this one will go to 80', too deep for me.
Jim, thank you for the feed back, I will be using it for stream and kayak so will fit some sort of floatation to it.

I have the Canon D20 Powershot. Yes, it has a mount. Yes, it floats in calmer water. Takes great underwater pics and video. One negative - if you keep it in your vest, PFD, or fanny pack, the lenses get fogged up and you have to constantly wipe off to get clear pics. Keep it in an airtight sack or case, it works great.

Same here! They've upgraded me twice when it kicked the bucket. That warranty is awesome. I would not trust it for anything more than a mild dunking.
I will say that gopro is no joke on their cameras. I had my down to 109' this past summer. Not a drop in the housing. That's pretty legit.

I've had three of the Olympus Tough series. The first two succumbed to water intrusion. Once was me forgetting to properly lock the battery compartment, the other was probably a piece of sand. Both were taken snorkeling and were fully submerged in 6+ feet of water. Around the kayak I have had zero issues with the occasional splash or dunking. Don't excec blown away from the photos though. I would say it's just barley a step up from an iphone camera. The zoom is nice though. Long term I want to get a used SLR and housing off ebay or craigslist. Apparently these can be had for the price of a new point and shoot and I'm told that's what most of what you see at the film festivals is shot with.
