I'm going down to a condo on the beach wednesday thru friday and will have some time to fish.....but I've never been there before.
Any help would be appreciated.....what should I fish for, what tackle, what bait.
Thanks again

Get some shrimp flavored fishbites and maybe some fresh dead shrimp. Try and throw them between where the waves are breaking and you should catch something. You don't have to throw out too far to catch fish. I always had the best luck early in the morning up until 10 or so. That way you also avoids the crowds some. It will be busy during spring break though. Good luck and let us know how you do. We are headed down there next week.

Well, I was able to surf fish for a couple days, didn't do real well, but had a great time. We were on Mustang Island. The first day the the surf was pretty strong and I tried casting from shore and I don't think I was getting far enough out. The second day, I gave in and walked out to about knee deep to cast. I was able to catch several whiting....nothing big, but fun.
The interesting thing was using the fishbite strips....I had never used them before. I had a dead shrimp tied on the bottom and a second hook about 18 inches above on a loop knot. The second hook was a streamer I had tied with maribou....and all I used was about a 1 inch strip of fishbite for bait.....guess what....I caught more fish on the streamer with only fishbite....no other bait. On the bottom hook with the shrimp, I also added a piece of fishbite.....but still caught more with just streamer and fishbite.
I am now a believer.

The whiting are fun to catch and great eating. Glad you had some fun. I was also surprised at how well the fishbites worked the first time I used them. I won't go down there without them now. Thanks for the report, we are headed down there Tuesday morning.

I use fishbites also, I have found usually that when they don't work dead shrimp does, and vice versa.
