Anybody seeing a pre-spawn pattern for LMB in the Trinity around Fort Worth? I've been struggling since the weather warmed up. Not a lot of action close to the banks. Just checking to see if anyone else is seeing it yet. Don't need specifics, just confirmation so I can keep working on it without losing my mind.

Haven't seen anything either. I've been out the last three days and haven't had much luck. Either they are still turned off from all the runoff they got the past couple of weeks, or the water still has to warm up a little. Where have you been hitting?

Ok, glad to hear it. I think you're right about the runoff and temperature. I've caught two this week of the four times I went. Today and Tuesday I didn't get a sniff and I've been throwing all kinds of different stuff.
I've fished around Northside Drive, mostly. One day was by Rockwood Park between University and downtown. Today was over by Forest Park Drive and parking for Panther Island.

I was out there today at the University section. Didn't see any prespawn activity. But one of the two I caught were showing signs of it. Like it's right on the verge of prespawn and bedding/staging, etc. I say but the middle of the week into next weekend, they'll be full on prespawn or maybe even spawning.

Yes sir! I kinda have to be there, since I'm the director and all lol. But yeah I'll see you out there!
Don't forget, it's the 28th of this month at the University section of the river. You can pre-register right now as well!

Yeah, I know, I kind of meant I hope I can make it. I know you are tethered to it now.
I will pre register once I figure out my schedule so I can donate some money!

Today was better but still not great. I talked to a guy in a kayak fishing in front of Woodshed and he said his electronics showed the water was 63-64, so it's getting up there. He caught a few bass and a catfish.
The water looks like it's clearing up, too, which helped, I think.

I agree. I'm excited. There were some bass patrolling the bank but they were very skittish. The carp were very active. Jumping all over the place. Turtles were out in force. Saw more baitfish than I have since October.

Today was much better. Moving baits are getting chased a bit more and bass are hanging closer to the bank.

Bass I have been catching have really been keying in on the crawdads. I was out at Rockwood in my kayak for a good majority of the day Sunday and was having very little luck with moving baits. Caught 1 on a squarebill and 1 on a lipless. So i finally decided to switch it up and started throwing a chigger craw on the back of a jig and it was like I flipped a switch. I caught 7 more bass after that including a drum and a catfish all on the jig. Even caught 2 of the bass on back to back casts in the same small area of the bank I was casting too. They are starting to get back in the swing of things now. Water temps for me ended up at 59.5 by about 4pm when I got off the water.

This 1.5" of rain they are predicting might slow things down again though and definitely wont help with water clarity any either lol

Nice! That's the next area I'm taking my yak. I've never paddled back there, but it looks awesome.

It looks awesome but can sure humble you some days too. There is so much cover on the banks in Rockwood its hard not to fish it at all! Luckily I know a few "hot" spots back there that almost always have fish so if Im struggling I can usually count on those. Rockwood is AMAZING whenever the topwater bite picks up too. Love that place.
Went out to University yesterday for about an hour and a half in the evening and fished from the bank. About 3 casts in I had a nice one (20" 4-5lbs) nail my crankbait, had another one just a big a few casts later nail it as I was trying to twitch it over some [censored] floating in the river, pretty much hit it like a topwater but he shook the crank right when I was about to pull him up on the bank. Ended up catching one more decent one on a rage blade and had a very smally bass swipe at it as well. Wasnt bad for the short amount of time I fished it. Definitely getting in to their pre-spawn spawning patterns. All bass were hugging the banks and bit VERY aggresively. Its about to get really good!
