Some reels have them both. I lean toward the centrifugal, but on the reels with both you have another degree of adjustment. If I could only have one it would be centrifugal. Then again it may have to do with individual mechanics of how different people cast, their hand size, strength, etc.

I have both also. I grew up fishing with centrifugal braking reels. I feel that magnetic braking reels are the best and especially on days when casting into the wind.

I have both and like the magnetic a little better, because it gives you more adjustments w/o having to take the side plate off. I do have the new Curado, but haven't fished with it yet, but it may be my favorite after I get to play with it a little bit. The magnetic just gives finer points to adjust to the conditions. And, you do not need to open the reel to change them. Hope this helps.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Hmmm. Beg to differ.

Fishing Ross Barnett yesterday, I was having to cast into around 30-35 mph head winds, in an almost constant rain, to get baits to the grass lines. My Steez reels got chunked into the floor and my Lews Team Pros were the only reels that could handle it. The LTP is a dual cast control reel, so it wasn't a true apples to oranges, but I have the magnets set to minimum. So I think it was sorta a fair example.

I agree with this. More adjustments without having to take the side plate off to do it. Makes the difference for me.

I depends on how you cast. If you use the rod and get a lot of fling at the front of your cast, centrifugal is prolly better as it will slow the spool early, yet not kill all your distance. The mag will have the same resistance through the entire cast. This will obviously take distance off. Use of the brake plus good tuning in needed to get the most out of your rig. All bets are off in the wind.
I generally use very little centrifugal and no mag, though my reels almost all have both. I let my thumb do the work, and dont mind alittle pprofessional overun. Into stiff winds, I add break for lighter, or less aerodynamic lures, and more magnet for heavier lures.
I hate throwing a baby brushhog against the wind. It catches every gust
