My U.S.C.G. plate with the weight ratings and/or persons is totally faded on my boat. Is there any way to get a new one or get the one I have redone?? Is that something that is possible? Do you need one by Texas laws? Also, do they check these in tournaments or is it something that is just overlooked? Thanks, Eric

King, I have never had anyone, even game wardens when checking me on water, look or ask about it- I THINK its only a Federal law that the Manufacturer has to put one on when they build the boat... The only place you might get one is from the Boat builder.. I hope someone who knows shows up, but as I say, I've never had anyone even say a word about the sticker.???

If you fish the FLW tour they will. Not that I fish in the FLW tour or anything, but some tournaments will require the placard and inspect it for liability.
I just don't want to be disqualified over something stupid like that.

Contact the manufacturer, they will send you a new one.
It doesn't matter how you find the pot of gold, all that matters is that you beat the leprachaun.

This is sort of like the FEDERAL labels on pillows that warn you not to remove them! No one has ever checked my plate , but I do not fish professionally. As long as it is still attached to the boat I would not worry about it.

Yea, kinda of a weird deal. Boatman1, I don't fish professionaly, but just doing a restore and trying to make the boat look new. It just has been faded out totally. I would think the Coast Guard could send me one or something like that.
I have seen tournaments where they do check this however, and if I decide to compete in one, I would rather have it than not. That would really suck to be disqualified for a placard that wasn't legible. Then again, most everyone fishing in tournaments doesn't have a piece of [censored] like my boat.

Don't mess with the one that is on there and get a copy of the specs for the boat off the internet. Contact the T director and explain the situation and show him the specs at the tournament. The T directors are pretty understanding if youre straight up with them.
Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

Getting the specs for the boat off the internet would be the hard part. I can't find that anywhere, I have come to the end of the internet, (as one commerical suggests)

I wonder if a sign company could reproduce one for you? Something like Fast Signs or someone possibly in decals or trophy labels. As for the specs, is it possible that other boat companies similar to yours could tell you how the specs are determined? I'm going to take a pic of mine right now as mine is fading out also.

Prepare for the future-it will be here tomorrow. Personal Best Large Mouth Bass 9 lbs. 12 oz 5/13/19. Herb Stein, who famously reminded us that “if something can’t go on forever, it will stop.”

Wish I had a solution for you, but I don't. I only have a comment about the FLW and their rule. My 2005 Skeeter has this 'rating plate', but it's a decal. What Kingfisher82 is describing will become more and more common as time goes by. Very few manufacturers use a 'plate' today...most just use a decal and we know they don't last long. Technically, if you want to get specific, the last time I read the rule it said "installed by the manufacturer". Ordering a new plate or decal wouldn't even fit that rule. I'm curious what a TD would say over that one. And I'm sorry if this gets hijacked....it wasn't my intention.

If you have the plate and are worried about the plate, I would leave the one I had alone. I would try and find someone with the same boat and year model who has one that is readable and have them take a picture of both the boat and plate. Keep that in the boat and I can't believe a tournament director would have a problem with that although I would let them know before entering.

Just called the district office for the game warden in Garland and the person I talked to said call the Coast Guard. I told her I did call the coast guard and they don't have these. She was dumbfounded at that.
She said she has never had this question before and that they do not give out these. Just thought I would update you guys on my plight. Kinda funny really, I didn't think it would be this big of a deal, apparently it is.

Son,
Remeber you are dealing with goverment people here. First they don't know there Ash from a whole in the ground.
#2 they have quota systems for hiring so you don't get the best of the best with Game Wardens employees anymore.
#3. I wouldn't worry about it,
But if you find someone to make them I need to one for another boat I run some. It's max horse it 245 and I want to stick a 250 plate on it.
PM if you ever get an answer.
