I just got an Lowrance LCX-38c HD from a guy I work with and im trying to find an update for it. This model is discontinued and from what i have found lowrance has stopped doing software updates. I found a firmware update but the file format is not in the USR format like my newer lowrance. Does anyone have a copy of the last update you can send me? Also do you have to use an external GPS puck for the unit to work?

Most recent update for that unit was back in 2009 - 2.5.0. It is on their website.

I'm downloaded that to my SD card but the graph wouldn't read it. I think it was because the card was to big - 16G. I know the older models had a size limit on what they could read. Going to try it again tonight with a smaller SD card. I already have an HDS7 on the dash and was hoping to put this on the front and connect it to the HDS. Guess I need to look in to the external antenna's.

I think you will also need an NMEA starter kit to get the antenna to work. I doubt anything larger than a 1GB card will be recognized by that unit.

Can this guy nmea the 38 to the hds7, and use that internal antenna?
