Turns out that I was less than 10 feet from a marina and the depth was deeper, so the unit paints part of the marina in the wrong place, because thats what it does. And that probably is a car. Next time I am in that area I will look for and rescan to see if I can get better view. If I do I will post those pics. The info I gave here came from input on the Yahoo Side Imaging web site.

How much draw will one of these 899ci or 999ci HB's have on the battery? Maybe a better question is how big of a battery does one need to run one of these units all day or should it have it's own battery. Currently both of my old b&w units X-4 and Cuda 350gps and trolling motor are on one deep cycle battery. I can go all day on it but it takes a good 4hrs to recharge the battery afterwards. A typical day on the water working the bird roosts I will put on at least 2 miles with the 43lb motorguide all the while running one or both fish finders.
TIA

TIA Both about 2A. You should not connect the more sofisticated sonar units to the trolling motor battery. A group 24 DEEP CYCLE battery is a good power source (that is what I use when fishing electric-only waters). You can get by with a smaller deep cycle battery like used on alarm systems--about a 20-25AH size.

Hummingbird shows .78 Amps (780 mA) power draw for both.

Thanks. right now I have one connected to the trolling motor battery and the other is connected to a 450ah harley davidson battery. The harley battery runs the X-4 all day and hardly drains it. I'm thinking a $90 Walmart battery would do just fine then.

I think this is the right place to ask..
Can you ethernet an older 798 ci SI internal GPS graph (bow), and a 798 hd SI with external gps (dash). Trying to share waypoints between the 2 graphs.

No, only the 798ci HD SI Combo is Ethernet compatable. AS INTERLINK is the only intercommunication connection that will work between those two units and it will share GPS data The 798ci HD SI Combo has an internal GPS antenna just like the 798ci SI Combo. Either one can support an external GPS antenna. Both are "c" Color display and "i" Internal GPS antenna.

Here's another dumb question from a newbie! Can someone please give me a quick rundown on how to make sure my HB 999 is taking a screenshot when I hit the mark button and then how to retrieve those screenshots and view on my computer? Also is there a way to save and watch at home the video logs while the unit is running? You know so I can see if I missed anything?

Also is there a way to save and watch at home the video logs while the unit is running? You know so I can see if I missed anything? To take screen shots you need a SD card in the unit (NOT A MAP CARD). Your map card should be locked. Then you turn on Snaphot in the Accessory Menu. To take a snapshot, push the MARK button. That saves a .png photo to the SD card in the Snaphot folder. It also creates a "S" prefix waypoint plus a location file that will display a thunbnail picture on the Chart view when you are at that waypoint. Since the snaphot is a regular picture file, any photo viewer software that your computer has will read it just like from a digital camera. You play back recordings on the unit, or with the card in your computer using software called HumViewer. That unit does not have a video-out port like the earlier 800 series units have to connect to a monitor/TV. You can use up to a 32 GB card for Snaphots and Recordings. I do a lot of both. Save your recordings in case you want to use the data for contour mapping at some point.

Ok thanks that explains it. I marked some locations but didn't have a memory card in the unit and thought I could transfer them later and I'll check out the HumViewer program. Thanks!
