Are sail Lines seasonal? I heard you can only do it in Winter because the Wind blows into the ocean? is there a way to do it in the summer?

They can be used year around, but of course the wind must be at your back where you are fishing. You must purchase a Saltwater Trotline Tag for each 300 feet of line. They are prohibited in the Gulf of Mexico, and can only be used in salt water bays. For more information and the regulations, see page 34 Legal Saltwater Devices and Restrictions for Fish, in the 2014 - 2015 TPWD Outdoor Annual handbook. Also see this helpful website for information. http://phartattack.tripod.com/sailline.htm

Keep the leaders short and use circle hooks to avoid hang ups on the oyster reefs. Use an electric motor (Ford windshield wiper motor) on your winch and let it do the work on retrieval. I only use 12 to 15 hooks. 30 are allowed but too much work to bait and deal with particularly when hardheads are biting.
Sail lines are a lot of fun and can be very productive when the fish come by.

You cannot use it in the Gulf of Mexico period. That includes Crystal Beach.
You can use it anywhere else in Saltwater (as defined in TPWD regulations) EXCEPT where saltwater trotlines are not allowed (See TPWD Saltwater Trotline regulations). Those locations are few and are clearly defined in the regs I previously mentioned, and are mainly confined to the Rockport, Lamar, and Copano Causeway areas.
They ARE allowed in Sabine Lake, Galveston Bay and all the other Texas saltwater bays, estuaries etc.

Pretty sure the rules and regs is free wherever you buy your license. You might want to read up before you head out.
