Yes over a year ago. The 999ci HD SI Combo replaced it for the 2014 model year.

Certainly, but not for full price.

The MSPR is $500 more than its replacement 999ci HD SI Combo.

The 999 has an internal GPS antenna and faster processor.
It doesn't have a direct Ethernet connection--needs an adaptor.
The faster processor will give it a longer updateable lifetime.

They have the same display and standard transducer.

What kind of adapter does the 999 need? I'm considering networking another unit on the bow to go with the 1199 on the console, but i don't want to spend a small fortune on gadgets, boxes, and cables.

The ethernet adapter runs around $25, you will need two, one for each unit and an ethernet cable. 15ft cable runs around $50. Thats all you need to network those units
