Going to lake of the pines next weekend and I've never been there. Is the north end of the lake where I need to be to find good fish or is the south or mid just as good? Any help is much appreciated!

South end

North gets more pressure, I like the south end best just cause it gets less pressure. The north end has more pads, grass, shallow cover. South end has good shallow cover too, but it's more rocks, steep banks, and points.

The lake is flooded now. Up nearly 3 feet above full pool and its supposed to rain out there again before the tournament. I can't remember the last time I fished a lake that was above full pool.

The north end is going to be very muddy with a good bit of current. There are better fish up there in my opinion, just depends on what you like to fish. If you are a stained to clear water guy, I would go down south.

I have always loved Pines mainly because of it's diversity. There is going to be good water and fish North and South just pick your poison.. LOL.

This time of year like on most lakes the shallow water warms up the fastest and draws more fish to the spawning areas sooner or at least closer but the South end and Mid lake will be great too with all those pre-spawn mammas looking for another meal before time to spawn. Each area is great with the right strategy. If you go north it is going to be muddy and you are going to want some bright colors to help get their attention. With the lake up it will be easier to navigate, and some water that is usually very hard to get to will be much easier. Up North I would be spending my time from Alligator Creek all the way up to the poles past the Water intake up there. Also the Twin Lake area will be doing good to with all that vegetation a swim jig should do well in that area. If ya want to stay South I would be using a deep crank in 8 to 12' areas that have quick access to deep areas or a spinner bait / chatter bait about halfway back in most the coves. For a little taste of up North on the South end go to the back of Alley Creek and work the stumps there will be some good fish in that area as well rattle traps and craw colored cranks come to mind. However, I'm not a guide and have not been on the lake in a little bit so I may be way off base.

I'm going next week and I believe you are correct. I will be working alley creek, Johnson creek and around the intake across the lake. We had a really good trip last year and caught lots of really good fish
