How quickly do you guys abandon a particular lure/color when you're fishing to experiment with others? I am typically patient and will literally spend the whole day with the same color not getting bit. If there's others around who are getting bit, I'll ask and see what I have similar to theirs. But when you're alone and no one is around, how frequently do you change?

IF I am fishing where I know there is fish, about 5 minutes; otherwise about 15 minutes.

depends on my mood
the less they bite though
the more I change the colors up
and typically go far away from the last color when I change as well thumb

Thanks guys! I appreciate the input. I've been fishing the boat slips on Grapevine and realized I tend to stick to my color/selection probably longer than I should. Don't want to be too impatient, but also don't want to get skunked unnecessarily!!!! bang So for Christmas, my wife got me the Vexilar sonar pod. Basically get to use your iphone as a sonar. I see the fish down there, so I know they're there. Just have to experiment or swap out more frequently.

That's one reason I keep 3 rods laying on the deck. If I'm at a known lake, I usually have a good idea what will work. There will be 3 different baits tied on those rods. If no bite at the spot, I may pick up another rod and make a couple dips. No bite on the second color, move. If I try all three colors a few times and not much happening, then it's really finesse time. Very small baits, pitching and letting it pendulum back, ect. Not much happening again, it's probably time to hit the trailer or wait a few hours till they get active. Or worst case, find one of those darn minnows. Maybe even a dead minnow. Keep fish

I usually tie on two different color jigs about 18 inches apart. Most of the time one color will get hit more than another. Sometimes i realize its not the color that determines a strike but if your staying in the strike zone. If the top jig gets hit more I'll reel up a couple of turns. If the bottom jig gets hit more I'll drop down a couple of turns. Once you find the right depth then you'll be able to accurately judge which color works best.

Jesus said to them, "Children, do you have any fish?" They answered him, "No." He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. (John 21:5,6)

Wait a minute there Ken...Don't you MEAN that is why you keep six spider rigs (each with different bait) in the water AND three rods that lay on the deck (each with different bait) at all times?!!! roflmao

Good advice either way... thumb

To test color are material you do need 6-7 rods to go from good ones to test ones. That is what I have been doing today, and the good colors was yellow and green. The color that did just as well in the muddy water was black, royal blue and peacock. Some of the colors I was thinking may be good, they were not.

Dale, I have a distinct disdain for spider riggin. It just ain't fun; however it works. I definitely prefer one pole, one jig. And that time is almost here thank goodness. woot
