Old trotlines and jugs in lakes are against laws already, the problem is lacking resources to police the bad guys.
A slot = taking away people's rights to havestr large fish.
Carp had no regulation and still allows bow hunting in many lakes where as catfish have working regulation in place for decades. Apple and oranges.
Ray hub lake produces small fish of all species, regardless if species with or without slot. It's called too much house development and too much chemical washed into the lake that disrupt food chain so fish are small.
... None of the pro slot arguments above could hold water.
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

... outsiders don't care ... if they find out you guys have something that they want then if the laws aren't there to protect your fisheries then it's all over but the crying. That's exactly what happened over at Twok.

Don't cry tiny, we all saw that picture, the internet is now has the same affect as tv, it's can go viral quickly, and that guy learn about Tawakoni from Facebook too. There will be more people flocking Tawakoni,.. They already have. That looks like a nice boat, after cleaning his boat he probably won't come back. But what people should be worry about are what they don't see on the internet that happened every winter for decades. Tawakoni seem to withstand the harvests fine so far. But with lake level getting lower every year, I to begin to have second thought about this lake sustainability. Frankly l am not against conservation but l think that the people behind this petition are very short sight, alienated a lot of locals who they need the support the most in passing any measure to protect fisheries and cooperation in years to come for any the measure to work
would you elaborate on why a 2'3.4.5 yo catfish that spawn every year are some how less effective then the 10_15 yo catfish?

There's the same cooler with three limits in it. Top cooler from Buchanan took half a day to catch, bottom twok took like two hours. There are herds of 13" and under blues in Buchanan and the bigger fish are there just not as many and with very little fishing pressure with the lake level. With that many small fish and from our trips there having twelve 10 to 20lb fish to our 1 I'd think twok was doing fine as far as having enough breeder fish. Didn't the tpwd do a study on twok and the growth rate there was a lot faster than other lakes in the state? I heard a man talking about it but haven't tried looking it up.

I signed that petition without even thinking twice about it,But now I'm I'm having second thoughts....What if we ain't careful what we wish for and we get it? I enjoy catching big blues ,BUT,I also like eating crappie, bluegills, and even sandbass sometimes. And the more big blues there are in a lake, the fewer of these others will survive. Guess that's what they call an Ecosystem. Therefore,I'm TORN ! I don't know what I want now.

I think we should start a petition to ban guides. Or increase their license fee to about 25k a year. If I could only count the fish I have seen taken by guides on Tawakoni over the years. I have personally seen these guys take hundreds of fish a day with their clients. They have no issue with it as long as it benefits their bank accounts. And now with low water on area lakes, I have seen guides from other lakes, some as far as eagle mountain, coming here to profit from Tawakoni. It's all about money.

That's not bad there. Just a few bigger ones. It's the John Deere cap, Case caps couldn't catch fish like that.

Sure we could raise the license fees to 25k a year. While we are at it let's raise the drivers license fee to 25k also. I mean that's how most folks get to their jobs right? What would be the difference? If guides have to pay that to go to work shouldn't everyone?

If Texas does not put strict limits on Lake Tawakoni it will get fished out. I live in Missouri and travel around fishing different lakes in Oklahoma and Texas. All the good lakes that have large catfish in them have low fishing pressure. I have watched Grand Lake in Oklahoma go down to nothing as far as big fish account of people jug fishing. Nothing wrong with jug fishing, but just need different rules for them. I think they need a limit on the jugs and need to be present with the jugs at all times. A limit of jugs should be the same as the limit of fishing poles you can put out.
