You earlier stated. Putting lines out in bad weather. Kills fish, at non-attending lines. How the heck do you know if folks are not running them in bad-weather. DAILY.

The trotline or other kind of line thing is still in the works. I know I personally don't put lines out when bad weather is coming and they will be stranded out there for pong periods of time. This practice simply kills fish that may spoil before the lines can be checked. The weather is something anglers should educate themselves on before thinking about running lines. Soak time is the next issue. It is all being thought of. You sir. Have no Clue. Right here!

If I check the weather, like all should, and know if I put the lines out that I will not be able to check them for some time due to the inclement weather then I won't put them out to soak for days and kill fish. I don't see that as something hard to understand????

Wow I have been reading these threads and I amazed at some of what I read. I agree that pressure on big blues has increased . I also know that yes the state doesn't spend as much on the research about blues as LMB I also know that anyone who thinks electronics doesn't benefit your capabilities on shorting knowledge time on finding target fish doesn't know how to read electronics properly. I am knew to blue cat fishing just a yr or so part time. I catch plenty and some trouphy fish. Whoopee . I really don't think we have the economic basis for sal program for blues. High pressure LMB lakes have unbelievable pressure . If ya don't think so just fish a few tournaments for them. If you want to help out start by CPR and regulating yourself . A lot of guys don't keep big fish. And sure there are some that are abusing the limits in place. TPWD doesn't guess they take the whole picture into play by doing surveys of the lake populations. And looking at the primary prey species which support it. They might take a look at it and say blues eat a larger percentage of support forage then any other therefore increase the limit because LMB fishermen spend XXXX on taxed items to fish that lake . Be careful what you ask for. And please be responsible fishermen and don't abuse our great resources.

I don't know about Salsa's opinion, but from my point of view, jugs & trotlines should be tended on the same day they're dropped off. If you go out early in the morning & drop jugs, then spend the day r&r fishing for other fish, you should retrieve the jugs before leaving the water for the day.
98% of serious. Trotlines/ Jug-Folks. Already Tend the lines daily. Weekend: Folk. Don't. Salsa did speak out against Trotliners/ Jug-Folks: On this orginal thread. Calling him out. I did??? I'd like to see in this post where i spoke out against trot lines. ??? Someone asked about my take on trot lines and jugs. Personally I don't have any experience with them. I grew up in the boat watching my grandfather and dad work them almost every weekend when I was young. Personally I have never run a line or jug other than out of my prop. Today in the light rain my prop got really tangled up in a shallow water trotline that wasn't marked. It was obviously pretty old and still has lots of Hook's on it. I was pretty upset about it because it took a ton of time to cut it out and it has happened probably 5-6 times last year. If you put a line out mark it, and don't leave it in the water longer than a few days. I see lines, hundreds of them in the trees up on the north end of the lake that should have any ethical line fisherman just shake his head and wonder what the heck those people were thinking. Jugs. My deal is If u put them out stay with them and take them off when u leave the lake.

We have cut dozens of old lines out if the trees in the north end of Hubbard over the last year. People tie them across the trees and just leave them. We kayak Back there quite a bit and since the lake dropped you have to be careful. There are suspended trotlines everywhere. We have cut out the ones we found. That is the kind of stuff that needs to change. At least it is one thing.

BANKFISHER50 can you explain how this would only benefit a guide to have a limit of say 25 total one over 34" ? And i have not spoke with Salsa on this matter. I think you just plain dont like fishing guides from what i read in your post. WHAT SACRIFICE WOULD YOU HAVE TO MAKE? Just want you to know I did gave you a reply, but it was deleted.
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

there's a pic that's floating around on facebook stating that all the fish in the boat were caught out of tawakoni ... which one of ya'll was that what done the masacre ... didn't think there was anyone left down in ya'lls vacinity that'd wipe out big fish like that but I guess I was wrong or maybe it was someone that wasn't a local that decided you texans had it too good on tawakoni so they decided they'd thin out your big fish population or something

I just now read a lot of this thread and it seems like my jealousy over what ya'll had down in texas is unfounded now as it seems as though you're losing your great fisheries. When I was down there with ya'll back in 2008 I couldn't believe how many fish was in ya'lls lake and out and about when the bigguns were on the nests. I was jealous and wished that okies would practice catch n release like ya'll did down there .. cpr could be the only reason ya'll had such great fisheries is because of good stewards of the resources but now it seems ya'll may have some outsiders coming down there just to harvest ya'lls fish... the ones that are against any protection should think about Keystone lake because in 2010 you could run around out there all day long and not find a fish over 15 lbs anywhere using side image sonar... this is what texas lakes will become if you don't take care of it and it's not the guides that kill those big breeder fish ... blues don't become successful breeders until they get up to 15 lbs or larger and it takes about 12 to 15 years to grow them that big... if they're all wiped out by people that are fish greedy like they are around here then you'll lose those great fisheries and it sounds like you're definately on that path now. I'm almost to the point that I'd risk becoming a vigilante for the catfish rigging up some manner of device to drag behind my boat to wipe those snaglines out... those should be the first to go because they target only fish that have reached maturity. Something has to be done down there or you guys lose and lose big... only way ya'll will be able to catch big fish is to go fishing to alabama or Va or someplace where they're protected by laws or poison environments where the fish can't be eaten. I sure hope ya'lls lakes don't end up like Keystone but it seems like it's coming ... outsiders don't care ... if they find out you guys have something that they want then if the laws aren't there to protect your fisheries then it's all over but the crying.
