Does anyone fish for carp from a boat? (Not bow and arrow, hook and line)

Every post I read about carp fishing involves sitting on the bank for hours and using super expensive Euro type equipment. When I was a kid I caught a ton of carp (under 10#) on corn and a Zebco 33. When I used to go to Travis I used basically the same rig (Walmart type spinning gear) and used to fish off the dock using dough balls. Chummed the area with fermented corn and caught bunches of carp.
Might seem like a dumb question but why not boats? Why not a Berkly 8" Big Game rod with a medium to heavy action spining reel, basically a catfish rig?

It could be done from a boat grandpa. In general you would want to use a lighter action rod than a catfish rod because you want to not pull the hooks from the tender lips of a carp. Most of us like to fish from the bank because it is enjoyable to find a nice shad tree and kick back and relax, rather than spend the day rocking around in a boat.It is easier to keep a tight line and use euro alarm systems from the bank also.I also like the crowds that gather on the bank that cheer us on like superheros! We get a brief chance to educate people and show off these beautiful fish.

If you got a 8' catfish rod I would go ahead and use it. Put 12 -15lb Berkley big game mono on it. The line will give some stretch to act as a buffer between the rod and carp.Play the fish with a light drag setting in preferably an area with few snags and you and the fish will be ok!You will also net more fish this way. Good luck grandpa.

I fish for carp out of a boat regularly but I do it with fly tackle. They are not nearly as big as the ones you guys catch but a four to five pound carp, in shallow water, on a fly rod is a blast. And, sight casting to them is icing on the cake.

Pretty sure he is just trolling and trying to stir the pot Yep, he is stirring and y'all are taking the bait, but he is probably telling the truth. Virginia is one of those odd places that has a snagging season. They even have a sucker snaring season.

Have fished for carp from my boat once in awhile during the summer to keep the nephew entertained. Ended up catching mostly sunfish, but got a couple average size carp that way. Was fun.
