So what about boats under 4500lbs? Is it actual weight or just carrying capacity of trailer?

So what about boats under 4500lbs? Is it actual weight or just carrying capacity of trailer? Jaret i was told that only trailers rated over 4500 had to be inspected.I have a 20 ft Stratos 201,my registration papers say its 5000.

Lots of 19ft boats are tandem too. I guess they went to capacity weight since landscape trailers routinely carry over 4500 but not when empty. I just wonder how strict the brake issue will be. Im sure tons of guys bypass the trailer brakes on older boats.

Apparently, like Lannie posted, if your rig weighs over the magic 4,500 lb GVW and is dual axle equipped with brakes, they HAVE to work. I don't honestly from my feeble research, think most inspection sites know how to test your brakes. Mainly, believe it's lights, clearance/brake lights, etc. There is a mention of 'proof of insurance'. That part was not clarified, so like you, looking for answers on that part God Bless

So what about boats under 4500lbs? Is it actual weight or just carrying capacity of trailer? Empty and Carrying weight = Gross weight If that total is 4501 you will need the inspection according to DMV Debra

It'd be a good idea to have working trailer brakes with all the other idiots on the road. Just my opinion

So a single axle Ranger Trail trailer (955lb. on title) and a z119 Ranger weighing less than 3000lb needs no inspection?
or is it the GVW on the registration 955 + 4500= to much
