Ok, my friend and I decided to go check out some ponds behind our honey hole. The ponds really sucked, so we decided to head back to the honeyhole. While passing by a fresh pond, we saw a duck with what looked like a broken wing, trying to get onto the shore. As we approached it it began to swim towards the island. Well, the duck is about half way underwater and we see 4 light brown legs in tow. The duck fought to get onto the other bank, but after a couple minutes he went straight underwater. My buddy had begun to try to wade out to the island, but the pond turned out to be alot deeper than we imagined, and although it was a freshly dug pond, the bottom was anything but solid. Well, my question is, have turtles been known to eat ducks??? What else has 4 webed feet? The thing in tow appeared to be about twice the size of the duck, and didn't appear to be struggling. EDIT: the object was nto struggling, but one of it's feet was moving. This pond is located near a construction site also, so it did cross my mind that they may have become tangled together by some discarded junk. What could have been going on here?/????

Oh yeah! Turtles eat ducks. I have seen this happen many times, especially with ducklings. The last time was 2 years ago at Rheudasil Park in Flower Mound. Doesn't have to be a snapping turtle either, any BIG turtle will do it.
Big catfish and, of course, alligators will do the same thing.
What was interesting was one time when I saw a medium size turtle go after a full grown Greater Canadian Goose. One of those big suckers. I got to see quite a battle. I would have loved to have had a video camera with me. Quite the scene of nature. Survival of the fittest type stuff. Lasted probably 15 minutes. The goose won. It had to have a broken leg but it managed to fly off. I shot the turtle a short time later so he really lost. (Brother-in-laws farm.)

Last spring while I was fishing from the bank in a park, a female duck with ducklings came swimming by. The last duckling was suddenly grabbed and gone! The mother went into mother mode and came back to the spot and dove down, alot of commotion, and up pops the baby, followed by mom! The baby seemed fine too!

Not odd at all....I've seen it a couple of times...turtles swim up under the duck...and latch on. Now whats really amazing is seeing a bullfrog eat a red winged blackbird. I was fishing a pond with cattails once and saw a frog take a blackbird right off a stalk. damndest things I've ever seen. One minute its there chirpin away...the next second...nuttin but bubbles. Frog eventually came up...actually bobbed up...with half the bird in its mouth.

My friends caugh a H-U-G-E snapping turtle that they kept as a pet when they were kids. This thing was about two feet across at the widest point of the shell. They named him Ajax. Their parent made them get rid of it when it at the neighbors cat. They ended up letting it go in the ponds over at the CC in Richardson.
We saw that thing take down a full sized duck on several occasions with no problem at all. He would just swim up and grab a leg or a wing, tuck his legs in and sink like a rock. He would just hold on until the duck drowned and then start in on lunch.
