The main petition is about the protection of large trophy fish.

"Even if you do not fish Tawakoni often, we ask that you support our cause and sign our petition to implement a restriction against harvesting large trophy blue catfish."

well I just read this whole thing... I am not a big catfish person but I do go out early in the spring because that's the only thing that is easy to catch... I fish Lewisville and I am not a fan of the slot limit...

I have several questions re: this issue...
1) trotlines will have to be outlawed because most BIG fish are caught that way, and chances are that that big fish is nearly dead when you get him in the boat from fighting the trot line for 12 to 15 hours... also trot lines cant be checked in adverse weather conditions and they may sit, baited for several days.
2) jug lines would need to be curtailed or eliminated because you invariably loose a few... we have all seen a random jugline floating in the middle of the lake from time to time...

I guess I am just saying that you need to be careful what you wish for because some of my fondest memories are from running yoyos with my dad when I was a kid...

finally the perceived notion that the big fish taste bad is just plain silly... I cant tell a difference at all and neither can anyone I have ever fed them too at a fish fry.

best of luck with yalls predicament but tread lightly.

And that right there will turn people against any proposal.

Contrary to popular belief TPWD is managing Tawakoni and has been doing a great job forever.
The blue cat population is as good or higher than ever. In the most recent tournament the top ten teams caught 1,484# of blues and that is limited to five fish per team. That is 50 fish averaging 29.68# per fish, in less than ideal conditions in 8 1/2 hours of fishing. Yep Tawakoni is really low on bigger blues. Many people have been taking large numbers of blues out of the lake for many many years. A lot longer than you or others realize, it has not hurt the population. The lake record continues to climb yearly and it is known as The Catfish Capitol of Texas. When lots of people are fishing and continually showing big blue cat catches what do you expe

ct? If you dont expect it to be crawling with blue cat fishermen, you might need to think again. We have an ample amount of fish and game laws and really dont need additional, you release your big fish just as I do but others keep theres and it is within there rights to do so.

Doesn't get any simpler than that. Funny thing is the biggest complainer is a guy who runs 2 guide boats and has zero problem taking hundreds and thousands of fish from the lake, yet doesn't want you to. His financial gain is more inportant than anything.

BANKFISHER50 can you explain how this would only benefit a guide to have a limit of say 25 total one over 34" ? And i have not spoke with Salsa on this matter. I think you just plain dont like fishing guides from what i read in your post. WHAT SACRIFICE WOULD YOU HAVE TO MAKE?

Just saw this one , others that are trying it.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has passed new regulations to encourage even more trophy catfish, restricting anglers to no more than one 34-inch catfish per day.

Tennessee has had that limit for several years. But notice too that there is no limit on catfish under 34". Catch as many as you can, any size under 34".

I don't know about Salsa's opinion, but from my point of view, jugs & trotlines should be tended on the same day they're dropped off. If you go out early in the morning & drop jugs, then spend the day r&r fishing for other fish, you should retrieve the jugs before leaving the water for the day.

For that matter.
How does anyone, here on the Forum.
Feel about Trotlines and Jugs?
Yes, release those big Blues.
With that said; why place an issue on Trotlines, Jugs.
To place the blame??????
Two sides, to every issue.

The trotline or other kind of line thing is still in the works. I know I personally don't put lines out when bad weather is coming and they will be stranded out there for pong periods of time. This practice simply kills fish that may spoil before the lines can be checked. The weather is something anglers should educate themselves on before thinking about running lines. Soak time is the next issue. It is all being thought of.
