I'm going camping with some buddies from college this weekend at Fort Parker State Park and was wondering if anybody has any knowledge of the lake? The website says the maximum depth is 6 feet and the park Ranger told me the a river can be pretty good. Is the bass fishing any good? Any tips would be appreciated!! I will be taking my boat.

Yes you want to go to the river, which has access from the park and has an gravel ramp, which I have used to put my 520 ranger in. Start at the river ramp, work towards the lake and then go up river, lots of lay downs and brush in the water. Use jigs, crank baits, and t-rig lizards. The white bass may also be good in the river. The lake is muddy and silted in, the only place to fish would be around the dam, the depth around the lake is 2 to 4 feet at best. Great park to camp.

Monte, Please report back your time there. My son in law and daughter got an RV and we have a list of different parks to go to each month. Next in line is Dinosaur State Park Glen Rose then we had the Fort Parker next in line. I would appreciate any input you can give me. Thanks

I was just in the river Thursday morning before the weather got cold. My buddy had one on a jig, and missed one as well in the 2 hours we were out there. Water was fairly muddy and in the high 40's. Be especially careful putting your boat in the river as the boat ramp is bad out at the end. The axles will fall off the first drop and then it will drop where the water tops the fenders. Do not go back any further. At this point you will be past the markers they have there by about a foot. The lake ramp has actually gotten worse than the river ramp so thats a no go. Lake Mexia is muddy and cold. Bass have lock jaw but crappie are pretty hot under the bridge. Hopefully this will help you out.

The river is one of my favorite places to fish. Like said above, be careful launching on the river ramo it's gotten pretty bad. I haven't been since late last fall but there's a ton of lay downs to fish. I have not been once without catching good fish, no lie. If you have a red shad Senko, throw it with 3/0 hooks me 8# line and don't stop throwing it. If red shad won't get you but then pumpkin pie will. Find some current and throw past the target into the current and let the current carry to the target. I caught 7 - 2# plus off one shallow water spot doing this. Just be careful and watch for falling trees...
