Just curious, what is the best all around map chip for a 1100 HB, or is the one pre-loaded addiquate?

The "best" one the one that has the coverage you want with the detail you want.
Humminbird units read Navionics and Lakemaster digital mapping.
The included background mapping (ContourXD) is Navionics also from 2006. It has 3,000 locations nationwide and may not have the loacations you want at all.
You can view the current maps on the Navionics website's Web App. What you see is what you get when you update a new purchase which includes a year of Freshest Data Updates.
You get see a list of waters that Lakemaster has on the Humminbird/Lakemaster site.

Here is a link to the Navionics Webapp...be sure once zoomed in, toggle the button in the bottom left corner. that is the Sonar Charts button that will toggle that function on and off. This is the layer that has all of the user recordings in and will show you the best mapping available for those areas.
