This weekend, I'll be headed out to Lake Murvaul for the first time ever. I'm taking my family and meeting some friends. I'll fish all day Saturday. My buddy got a new Skeeter and I can't wait to fish out of it.. Anyone been on Murvaul recently? How is the water temp? Any advice?

I've read some past discussions on here about the lake and I'm excited. Just curious how the recent weather had affected the lake. Thanks I'm advance guys.

My grandfather used to have a lake house there , so I grew up going out there. In fact, I still do regularly. Ive been the last couple of weekends and will be there Friday also.

That one warm week in February, it was ON. My brother and I had our best day on Murvaul that I've ever had, and I fish it 20 times / year. We had multiple 7's, 6's and more 4's and 5's. It was just one of those days. We happened to find them on a creek channel next to a flat and timber and they were stacked in there.

Water level is over-pool and extremely muddy compared to other lakes you may have fished. There are tons of standing reeds all over the lake, Black and blue jigs work well flipping the reeds as well as under boat docks. Mainlake points have brush on them if you can find them, I'm sure some big girls are still staged on brush. I would attempt to find some shallow flats though.

The last 2 weeks I went out there the water temp has dropped considerably. That one good day that I had , the water was 57 degrees. 2 weeks ago I went and it was 5 degrees and I fished all day and only had 4 fish (one was a 6 lber though). I had a friend out there this week and he said its now down in the 40s. My experience with less than 50 degrees on murvaul is not good. Fish Slow , slow.

Good places to start may be the mainlake side of the island near the marina. There is a ridge right off of that with deep timber near by, crank, jig or Carolina rig that ridge. This time of the year, most boats will be north west of the bridge though. Be very careful and idle everywhere. Its rough under there, but all those standing reeds back in there to the right hand side are good to flip this time of year. There are a few flats up in there that they are probably staging on.

Saturday , the water will probably be around 50 degrees. Crank the creek channels, jig the flats and ridges is my recommendation.

Good luck and stay in the boat lanes, and remember, idle above bridge.

Thanks BAJackson! Great information. I appreciate it. Do you know where a good map of the lake can be found? I've found a couple but I really would like one that shows creek channels and such. I haven't had much luck finding a map.

I don't have a lake map. and I've actually never seen one. I think the marina may have one on the wall.
