I've noticed that the yellow dandelions are starting to bloom. This is normally a good sign that slabs are moving to the shallows. Is anyone picking up any Crappie under a cork on lake X yet?

I fish with corks all the time and catch as many as I do with jigs both in shallow and deep. Seeing corks shallow will give you a better judgement of shallow spawning crappie for sure but does not mean that's the only time to use them. I use everything in my arsenal and I must say I do pretty well.

To be more specific in my question: how many of you out there are seeing crappie moving into shallow water on Lake X [ to define lake X: I don't care what lake]. Just opening some discussion on early shallow water crappie!!!

Well, the Dallas area is projected to get almost 4"s of snow on Thursday.

So the shallow crappie movement will be moved back a few more days.

the crappie WERE shallow a little bit a week or so back
they have not been at those locations (several lake x's ) I found them shallow in since all the artic blasts
only one this week under a float rig
but if we get some stable weather that's the norm for this time of year
for 4 or 5 days in a row
they will move up like rockets for sure
and on some lakes much faster than others as you might have assumed as well
and for sure they are MUCH more active on the go shallow thing at night thumb

I can't wait! In the mean time, I'm on watch at the slips!

No way, it hasn't even hit 60 degrees in two weeks, it'll be a while.

I know it is selfish but I'm hoping they wait another month. I should be back fishing by then and will not miss two spawning seasons in a row if it takes longer rather than sooner. bolt

Thanks. I'm well but my wife isn't so I can't leave her by herself right now. But she's improving and it looks as if she will be able to go with me in about another month, if not sooner. Might be in a wheelchair but that doesn't really matter since I bought a pontoon in 2012 to cover that possibility.

I hope she gets well soon too, but you will be fine in a month. It's always good around Easter... IMO

Been on and off all through February on lake X the first week (full moon) was warm and we caught a mess of males digging there beds. We used long poles and ultra lights with slip corks. Then this cold weather as them pushed out. Then back again .I'm looking forward to an extended warm spell so we can have a meat haul!
