I was out there last Sunday and they had not made it up there at least from what I could tell. The ramp is roped off but if it is light enough to carry you maybe able to get it down there. There was about 4"-5" of water in the creek until you hit the main creek. I was in a kayak and had to get out and pull it the last 10-15 yards. Once I was In the river there was plenty of water for about 1 mile towards the main lake and I got passed by a center console that was trolling so there is water all the way to the main lake.

Going back and looking at some of my old fishing logs where I've written down dates from the past when I've caught whites on the river I've found them up in the rapids upriver in mid February. Again, this is taken from past logs, and the weather and water levels had an effect on the spawn as well. When the water was up I would head up river from RC toward the rapids which at that time would have been 4 miles from the ramp. Approx. half way (2.5 mi.) there is a spot where the river widens slightly where the bank terrain flatens out on both sides of the river. The water there would be from three to four feet, so with that in mind, that area should be rapids by my pea brain calculations. With a few days of sunshine and not freezing temps, that would be a place to check out.

I ran up to the mouth of Rebecca Creek today, did not see any concentrations of whites on my side scan all the way up. I stopped at the entrance to Rebecca Creek and fished about an hour with medium minnows ( side scan showed scattered fish in the area, looked like whites to me), caught a nice 3 lb. Blue Cat but that's it. Water temp. was 50 degrees, 7 degrees colder than 3 weeks ago. I'm going to run up as far as I can tomorrow and or Tuesday, will post report.

Last year I went up river as far as you could go. I made it a couple hundred yards short of the concrete boat ramp on the left, way before big house on the right. The water was not flowing at all, stagnant and nasty with green slime on the rocks. I saw no sign of whites.

Went up river as far as I could go today, which ends up being about 3/4 mile upriver from Rebecca creek, the river has a narrow spot at that point that is now 2-3 inches deep. If you could get past that you could run a lot farther. No whites up there yet, did catch 2 more nice blues on minnows though ( While trying for whites). Saw one guy in a kayak, said he had caught a couple crappie.

I was the guy in the kayak out there yesterday. I ended up catching 14 crappie and 2 whites. The whites were all of about 7" and only 5 of the crappie were keeper sized. Only one of the crappie was a female the other 4 were males so I don't know that the big females are that far up yet.

Once the water temps hit 60 and are steady for a week they will move up. I marked a lot of fish at the mouth 3 weeks ago. Water Temps were 56 deg. Till Mother Nature hit the rewind button with that freezing front last week. And another cold one due to hit today. Need some rising steady temps. There not much river flow coming in but more than the last 4 years since the last solid white run at canyon. Till then il keep hunting and hitting the nueces for whites. Been tearing them up down there

Fished yesterday and today. We found whites/stripers feeding on the surface near the first house( in river channel) at around noon both days. Weird thing is on both days it was about noon that they started chasing shad on the surface. We caught one striper that was 25" , a Hybrid that was 20" and about a dozen whites over 10". We were fishing with white spinners, a blue rattletrap, and a green diving lure of some sort. They seemed hit all of them pretty much equally when they were feeding. When they were not on the surface we tried minnows but were not very successful. Pretty fun chasing them on the surface. The water temp today was up to 52 degrees.

I am going fishing tomorrow will post my report. I will probably not be going up the river but to coves that have creeks running that is where most white bass go...The flow in the river is slow.

Fished the river found several ball of white in the main channel a few miles from the entrance caught 18 trolling large minnows and throwing a Spin Shad... the minnows seems to work the best.
