I am fixing to upgrade and switch from lowrance to hummingbird. but I can't afford to buy two fish finders 9 series. Yes I can get two ports for driving and front for trolling but that's just a pain. If anyone has been Able to make this work please share. Saw this short vid on you tube.http://youtu.be/o42osNnewlA

Wayne P. TFF Celebrity W Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 5,160 Charlottesville, Va	You can hook up a monitor to the 998. It has a Video Out port. The connection to do that is the VC-1 cable. There is a setting in the Setup menu to turn that on. The VC-1 has a Humminbird plug on one end and two RCA plugs on the other end--sound/video. The 999 does not have that. All the 8X8, 9X8, 11X8 units have that port. I use that with my 1198c SI Combo for viewing on a larger screen and a smaller screen when doing demos sometimes I have also hooked up to a DVD recorder and saved unit recordings during playback for demos. The only current models that have a video out port is the ONIX and that takes the Humminbird HDMI cable. I don't have either of those----yet. The issue with using a video monitor on the boat is sunlight viewability and moisture. If you do a search for highbright weatherproof monitor, you will see why another unit may be just as economical. The flat panel TV on the wall is hooked to the 1198 on the right of my computer: Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 10 G3, Helix 15 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, Helix 8 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 12 G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL , MEGA LIVE 2, Xplore 10

I've got a Onix 10 combo unit and I'd like to have a basic repeater in front of the console. Don't want or need a separate system, I'd just like to be able to view what I have in two places. The cost of a second Onix unit is steep. Semper Fi This Veteran heavily medicated for your safety. Keep me fishing and all will be well.
