I ordered some of the Lil Nasties sickle hooks by Eagle Claw simply because it seems I have to try anything new. Be aware that although they appear to be good quality hooks, they don't come close to Matzou in terms of sharpness. About the same as regular Eagle Claw hooks....good quality, but lacking the extreme sharpness.

I got about 25 each of 5-6 sizes/metal's as samples because I think they are slightly smaller in diameter than the Matzuo and if so, will eliminate a lot of clean-up on my 1/16oz & 1/32oz ball head's. Haven't had a chance to test my theory yet.

What I have heard so far is they are good hooks, but not as sharp as Matuzo Sickle hooks. Also talking to the guy that makes most of my heads that at first they were cheaper, but lately they have come up to about the same price as Matuzo Sickles. So I have been happy most of the time with the Matuzo for probably about 10 years. Now there has been a couple times my patience was tested with hooks breaking as I tied them which was a horrible thing as you just waited for guys to call back saying what is the deal, my jogs hooks are breaking, LOL! However most of the time that didn't happen as I probably broke most of the worst ones when I tied them as I am heavy handed.
Other things that I was not happy with was the barbs could be any place on the hook for a while and even on the opposite side from where I should be, LOL! However I kind of like the small barb on the Matuzo and another thing I hear is the barb on the Eagle Claw is bigger and since they are also not as sharp, I will stick with what I do now, plus I have so many different sizes and good stock of all, it makes so sense for me to change or add the Eagle Claw hooks to my supplies.
So good hooks and sharp, but not as sharp (which I have heard from several guys) and I am happy with the ones I have. I figure if someone wanted to get into this style and quality with price they should have done this about 8 years earlier and Eagle Claw is just late to this race and seems others just didn't want any part of this. I mean just look at my favorite expensive hook, Gamakatsu hooks are great, but expensive. Most of the High cost hook Mfg's just didn't want or couldn't match the price of the Matuzo Sickle hooks and still keep them as sharp. I just feel if any of them could have met all the conditions of the Matuzo Sickle hooks they would have before now.

I sent some of the EC hooks to 3 different tiers to get their opinion. Heard from Radtexan and he likes them. Will post results from Skip and plateboater when I hear from them. The way the weather's been the mail will probably be running a little late.

Actually I said I like the way the bend looked, and it felt pretty sharp if you could position it to really stick in that angle.Since I don't pour, a buddy is gonna give them a dip and we'll find out with a real fish test

They came in today Tony and I fully agree with your take. They are as sharp as other Eagle Claw hooks, no more! Matuzo Sickle hooks are much sharper! I did the finger nail test to several and not one stuck in at all. Can't do that with a Sickle from Matuzo!
