I have a Pflueger micro on my fly rod, nice little reel.. I don't fight the fish on the reel much so I like the closed face of the underspin better than a spinning reel..

I second the pro angler rods. This is my first year with them and I really like them. Best bang for the buck I have found.

Hey texboxer, I have a 9ft Wally Marshall solo rod and the Shimano Sienna 1000 works perfectly with it. Any 1000 or 10 series spinning reel would probably work just fine with the 9ft. You may go to a 2500 or a 20 series spinning reel if you have the 10 ft rod. You should be able to try some of the demo reels at Academy to see how certain reels balance on your rod. You'll also want to know where the balance point is on your rod when paired with different reels. Proper reel/rod balance is especially important if you fish extended periods of time and don't want to deal with premature arm fatigue. Hope this helps. +1. Brian Carter did a really nice presentation on rod balance and reel weight at his seminar last month.

I use the little Pfleuger trigger spins on most all my rods. Lots of stories about landing fish way out of their target zone.
If I got down to 2-4 lb for tiny jigs I use a small open faced spinning reel.

That's a thought. Thanks Only problem is, I know absolutely nothing about fly fishing reels. Hopefully the reels aren't as expensive as most of the fly rod I priced. HOLY MOLY! are they expensive! I've used fly reels for years and I like them for water 12' or less. Most are reversable, they are light weight, they have EXCELLENT drag systems and are not terribly expensive. I have found decent reels at Bass Pro and Cabelas for less than $25.
