Just bought a 2008 210 Champion last week with a 2007 Merc 250 Pro XS. My question is this. The boat had been sitting up since October of last year(so 5 month) and I bought it with 70% full tank of gas. Should I add and additive to the tank such as Quicksilver Quickkleen or a fuel treatment of some sort? My next question is this. I was told to try and run only regular gas with no ethanol. If I cannot find this in my area what type of gas should I run?

I like the StaBil marine formula fuel additive. Some may say it's just a "placebo",but It has kept gas still good for much longer than that for me,and (so far) I have not noticed any damages from ethanol .

Have you even used the Quickleen by Quicksilver? the previous owner told me to use it once a year to basically blow out all the deposits in the motor.

Drain the gas and put it in a vehicle. Put fresh gas in and use 1oz of Quickleen and 1oz of Quickcare per 5 gal of gas every time you fill-up. For your first tank, you might run a bottle of Seafoam in her.

drain it and clean the tank. change all filters and the pump bulb. you're talking about $200-$250. drop in the bucket compared to what i've spent by not doing it. do a search of my posts.

DKennimer why are you running double Quickcare? It says 1 oz for 10 gals on the bottle. I do run Quickcare and Quickleen in every tank but use it by the directions on the bottle. My dealer and a very good mechanic told me to do so and I would never have to worry about fuel problems. If there is a reason I would like to hear about it so I could research it. My 2014 manual says regular unleaded is okay but running the quickcare helps negate the effects of the ethanol.

So yall add Quickcare to the gas every time. Gotcha. Smooth Move the filters were all changed about 2 weeks before it sat up for a couple months so they are fine. I'm gunna fill it up and add some quickleen in it on this tank and after that just add quickcare to every tank. That is the same that others have told me.

Also gunna check on doing the Seafoam. I also have another question. What type of oil to yall run. He told me he always ran Quicksilver Premium Plus but it appears you can't get it at Academy anymore. Did they replace it with the Premium Plus Blend or did they just change the name to "Blend"?

If you get on BBC, he's the Mercury guru/Master mechanic.

Actually, effective 2010 all Optimax motors are recommended to use DFI oil due to an added additive. Premium Plus can be used in a pinch. The labeling has changed for the Premuim Plus. The PP Synthetic Blend is still the Premuim Plus.

Rodbreaker, when you get time, visit BassBoatCentral's website forums and read the sticky's listed under the Mercury 3.0L section. Lots of good info and great people willing to help.

I only run the Mercury DFI oil, which is what Mercury calls for in mine. I believe the premium plus is the same oil as the blend but I would make sure first. The Walmarts around me carry the premium plus but not the DFI so I buy mine in bulk from the dealer. If I was you I would try to get some of the gas out and then fill it up and treat it with Quickleen and quickcare before running it. The synthetic oils don't tend to carbon up like the other oils so if you are not using them I would make sure to run the quickleen in every tank. Its just me but I wont run anything but Mercury or Johnson/Evinrude oil in an outboard. I know some people have had great luck with others but I'm not willing to risk it. JMHO
