Wanting to do some camping and kayak fishing during spring break week. Looking at a state park within a couple hours of Dallas. Got my eye on Purtis Creek as a possibility. Any other state parks I should be considering? Would like one where I can get a campsite close to the water.

Check out mineral wells sp. You can get a shelter or camp right on the water.

Good luck finding one last minute. I tried to get a cabin 2 weeks ago at Daingerfield and got the sole remaining night they had left.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

The state parks on Ray Roberts all have some camp sites right pretty close to the water.

Most parks I've already looked up still have plenty of campsites available. Just wanting advice on good location for fishing. The state parks on Ray Roberts all have some camp sites right pretty close to the water. Yea, I've been up there. Looking for something to give a little more protected areas so my kids can get out too.

I know not a state park but Juniper point off 377 on Lake Texoma is a good spot. Sites are right up on the water and open banks to fish. Sites all have water /elec/ and firepits. You can choose your site online and see images of the sites. If you have a boat you can beach it at your site too. Great spot for kids to swim too. Water is shallow and goes out before it gets deep. I been several times...

Tyler State Park is very nice and it has it's own lake. Also, Bonham State Park has a small lake within the park.

I stay at Purtis creek several times a year. I love the lake as it is normally a quiet lake and a no wake lake. Fishing can be hit or miss for me.

I love Purtis creek...as others have mentioned, fishing can be hit or miss, but it's a nice, clean park on a great lake. And there's 3-4 really nice normal car-camping spots right on the water that allow for sliding your kayak into the water right from camp, or of course the primitive spots on the opposite side of the lake are great for that, you've really just got to paddle over to them(which is easy enough).
I might get a chance to go camping this coming weekend, as my in-laws are coming into town which usually means I get a free pass...may go to Purtis, but does anyone have any experience with camping on Cooper by chance? any nice spots with campsite water access for kayaks?

They have already been mentioned, but Purtis and Bonham are my two "go to" parks. I have trips scheduled to both of them over the next two months.

Check out mineral wells sp. You can get a shelter or camp right on the water. Is there still water in MW? Maybe Fairfield, Cleburne if they have water?, Pool, Tawakoni? If still open

Seth, Cooper is not producing any fish right now. I caught that cat in Jan but we have yet to catch a Hybrid and Tony Parker Guide Service (only guide on Cooper) is still fishing Tawakoni. Cooper has risen 4 ft lately. Also there are really no campsites you can launch a kayak from. There is one on the South Sulphur side that you could drag one probably 150 yards to the water but I don't remember the site #. Rick

Joe pool has spots right next to the lake. Especially right next to the walnut creek trail which is great for kayaking.
It's a great day because I'm not 6 feet under.
