I have some coordinates that are both in decimal and degree format. When I search these on Google maps they come up in the correct places. However when I load them into either the HDS or PC App they are not even close. Any comments?

Be sure to check your map datum under the settings. Map datum WGS84 is the latest and most common datum. If I remember correctly, it was updated in 2004. If you save datum under one format then open it in another format it will not show correct positions. You also have to make sure your HDS unit is set to the same units as Google Earth. If you save your waypoints in Degrees, Minutes & seconds, then your graph needs to be set to the same format. Do the same thing if it is set to Degrees , minutes & decimals instead of seconds. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what else it could be. The following are the most common formats. H stands for Hemisphere, d=degrees, m=minutes, s=seconds. hddd.dddd hddd mm.mm Example: N31 4.561 W094 4.138 is the same as the following coordinates hddd mm'ss.s. Example: N31 4' 33" W094 4' 8" I prefer using hddd.mm.mmmm. Good Luck, Mike

I've found converting all waypoints to digital format (hdd.dddd), then transferring to HDS is the most accurate way. There are several conversion programs on the web.

The original WP's were in decimal. I used an online program to convert to degrees because Navionics PC App only searches in degree format. Below is one of the WP's that appear to be on land on Lowrance HDS and PC App.It appears to be correct on Google Maps. 32.85877 - 95.51552

When you converted the coordinates did you get: hdd mm.mm = 32 51.5262, -95 30.9312 hdd mm' ss.s" = 32 51' 31.572", -95 30' 55.872" Are you using the old Navionics PC App. It is no longer available & I lost it when I changed computers. I thought you could change the format on the PC app. It's been so long since I used that app, I just can't remember for sure. Do you have a map card in your Lowrance HDS unit? I have found if you are using the built in base map, that your points won't appear to be correct because the base maps are just general outlines of the lakes and aren't very accurate. Good Luck, Mike

Mike, I got hdd mm' ss.s" = 32 51' 31.5714", -95 30' 55.8714 I have the Navionics up datable chip in my HDS so I would assume that the PC App is no more than a year old. I see no way on the PC App to change formats.

Those should be right. I just rounded the points I converted. Here are a few things to try. 1st: make make sure it is loading the Navionics card & NOT the Lowrance map. Press Menu button twice, Highlight "Chart", press Enter, Highlight "Chart Data", select "Navionics" 2nd: make sure Datum is correct Press Menu twice, Highlight "System", press Enter, Select "Datum" press Enter, use keypad to select "WGRS84". This will probably be selected already since it is the Default. 3rd: make sure coordinate system is set to the same system as the coordinates you are trying to enter. Press Menu twice, Highlight "System", press "Coordinate "System" then choose the format you are trying to enter. Last: if everything above is correct, trying entering the coordinates manually into the unit & see where they show up on the map. I really think it is loading the Lowrance map & not the Navionics map. You can PM if you have any questions. I hope this works. Good Luck, Mike

Mike, I checked all of the things you suggested and found that my HDS was set to degrees and minutes. I reset it to degrees minutes and seconds and the WP's came out correct. I then discovered that the Navionics PC App requires WP's to be entered in degrees minutes and tenths of minutes. Like this 32 49.555 95 32.112
Now life is good.
Thanks for your help and maybe this will help others that have had the same issues.
Dave

Glad it worked. Now if this bad weather will go away, you can put those waypoints to use. Good Luck, Mike
