Heat gun to soften glue, then peel off. Rub with solvent until glue comes off (and rinse immediately if you have gel coat).

I have a heat gun but that scares me a little bit. What solvent do you suggest to remove the glue?

I just did it tonight on 1 side of my boat. I'm pretty sure the numbers were installed in 1998 when the boat was built. They were a pain to get off. I used a plastic scraper and gf's hair dryer. It doesn't get hot enough on the low setting to cause any damage to the boat/gel coat, but heats up the sticker adhesive just enough to let them peal off. Again mine were very old and they "flaked" off more than they pealed off, but im happy with how quickly they came off. Very little adhesive left. I was done in 20 minuets. Took acetone to the remaining sticky spots and to prep the areas for the new stickers. Worked great. Before and After pics:

Many Thanks! Mine are 1997 old. I will try the girlfriends hair dryer before the heat shrink gun.

So I take it that when you order your new TX letters/numbers (depending on the maker) they come in a strip that is easy on with one swipe?

Yes, they come on a strip of sticky paper you just peal, line it up and stick it to the boat. I got mine from a guy here on the TFF. His screen name is Nether. I paid for them with paypal and had then 4 days later. Very quick and a good quality product. Vinyl Decals on TFF

Looks like cheap [censored]. The new ones you have made the boat look at least $2000 more valuable. Good job.

Hair dryer and WD40 Then clean the WD40 off with alcohol. This and I rarely have to use a blow dryer. I follow up with a little Flitz to get rid of all traces.
Retirement best job ever.
