I grew up in Kentucky. I've launched on icy ramps a few times, and most of the time it wasn't because it was dropped by mother nature. With the forecasted lows and no host ramp, the ramps will likely freeze when guys pull their trailers out in the morning. I hope I'm one of the first to launch. I've backed down a few icy ramps, and I can tell you it isn't fun. But it's doable. Your tires should get traction when they hit the water. Try to find the clearest path and put your vehicle in neutral instead of reverse. Don't unlatch your boat until you get to the water, but I normally loosen the strap enough to allow the boat to start to float when it gets in the water.
Trails in KY rarely trailer, so TDs normally put sand down at the host ramp and keep a close eye on the ramp while guys are launching. That's not going to be possible with this tournament.

I'm really looking forward to it, and who knows what the weather is going to do. But if we do see ice or below freezing temps the morning of, I hope this info helps some of you guys that aren't used to launching on ice.

Since you said you'll be up there tomorrow and plan on being early to launch, I nominate you to put sand on the ramp! banana

Which one you launching at so we will know which one is sanded?

Lol. There aren't that many that are usable. I don't know what the going rate for sand is nowadays, but a generous guy could buy a half-ton or ton and go around spreading it at the ramps. Just need the vehicle to haul it around in. I try to be generous, but I don't have that kind of time, lol.

I've talked to a couple of teams not pre-registerd, there not going to make the drive if it's bad weather...
Great to hear a record number of early entries, right now if you can put 5 fish together it's almost for sure $$$..

Good Call.
I want to fish as bad as anyone but no reason to put people in danger over a tournament that could be rescheduled.
No matter what Saturday does ...Friday is looking bad for travel.

You not only would get a whoopin from your ins man, but momma may put a knot on your head as well!

Good luck to all the BC guys if they proceed with the tourney.

Snow the night before and sleet for most of the morning. making me think twice for sure. If I had to travel the night before or the morning of I would definately be out. There will be ice on the roads and bridges not to mention the 18ft+ boat behind you....
on another note next sat is looking great!

I was interested where you folks plan on launching your boats with Lake Fork Marina's ramps closed due to low water?

Gman

Still plenty of ramps on the lake open. I've already learned my lesson about pulling a boat on ice. Don't think I need to try that again. Y'all stay safe.
