Me and Tex went up last year and fished with lance and we had a great time. Lance is a good guide but a much better person. Lance was a very good friend when he lived here. Johnny

Please forgive my ignorance. What can you do with a Spoonbill? Never caught one. Eat it? Honest question?

Shovel bill cats have no bones. Just some cartilage like a shark. They are good eating. About like eating a big channel cat. We have snagged them on bare trotline hooks up on Red River where I grew up as a kid. Never caught one with bait.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

I have caught many over the years and only ever kept one! Thought it was quite possibly the worst tasting fish I have ever put in my mouth! I tried cooking it several different ways! I will never keep another one! They are fun to catch!

Here's an example of what winter fishing for spoonbill looks like. Spoonbill Video Once they get up in shallow water we have the option of casting out and jerking or putting the trolling motor down moving forward at dropping down and jerking up. All three methods are extremely fun and entertaining. Warning: you will go home sore and tired from fighting with big fish. Avg. fish is around 40 pounds. We get some smaller and many in the 50-70 pounds class. Larger than 70lbs does happen just not often. Spoonbill Video
