Good Question and it does require a lot of thought! Not sure what I would do my heart says go pro but knowing what it takes financially it would be really hard for me to do it! I like the fact in the Elites you are limited on practice and feel the opens should be a month off limits as well. I rarely get to practice anymore anyway!

Im not good enough..People mature at different speeds..I would have killed to do it when younger, but no regrets..If the opportunity and the time to focus on the skillset im lacking arose, I would try assuredly.. However in our sport, winning consistently is fleeting...i have seen alot of people chase that demon, never realizing the committment necessary... and the humble pie one has to accept to reach the pinnacle even to make a living at it..Plus the golden rule..Fishing to me is pure..I duet because its a challenge, its fun,and not many of us can duet, or are crazy enough to try.. Im a tight sob, I hate to lose or worse just not compete well..When it becomes a job of frustration that is a tragedy... Lastly I have a family..Im in or have been in as far as I dared..It consumes you..lolol..Good luck to you..I wish success for all that try..

What's the definition of a local hammer?, someone with a new expensive boat with 5000$ in rods and reels and 4000$ in electronics and pretends he's a pro and never win?

It takes more than just wanting to.. Take backing too.
A conservative number for fishing a year's worth of Opens is $100K.
You are surely not meaning 3 Opens?

I would just like to fish 3 opens - money is not an issue to a certain point. My boat would not be an issue - just taking the time off. Would be a rush I think - like no other !!
Jesus first - then the rest will fall into place.

Wish I was younger and had the money and opportunity to try. I didn't have the resources to fish competitively even 8 years ago. Now I would rather stay at home with my family, raise my kids and try and improve amongst our very competitive local sticks.

I don't think the original question here had anything to do with money or work. in my opinion if your good enough to go pro or be given a shot at the pro level. Than you already have sponsors in place to cover most of your expenses. I currently know people who just fish simple Saturday club tournaments and have rod sponsors ..electronic sponsors and even trolling motor sponsors. So to answer the original question if I was given an opportunity to try the pro level I would. I think the hardest part of trying the pro circuit would be what you miss at home family wise.

Like a lot of you young guns I wanted a shot at Pro ism. And it was a great time to jump in late 60s early 70s. Some of my friends did and made lot of money not from the tourny payouts but stepping over into the booming tackle industry. I had a family three kids and a good payin job so I just fished the opens and clubs and enjoyed it . I've been lucky enough to still get to fish against the best without chasing the pro tours.
