Big fish is 100% on target....more first time boaters/fishermen in increasingly fast boats..... No training or license required

This is on Rayburn where there's plenty of open water for someone running to give a guy plenty of room. When I see someone fishing a point, I will be sure to give him 100 yards or so assuming there's no timber in the way. I also realize when fishing, you are going to meet people on the bank and you'll get close. I'm not taking about on a bank...I'm talking about fishing a flat offshore or fishing a ledge.

Am I just getting less tolerate in my old age? I really don't think so. People are damn sure getting less considerate of others.

No, you're right. I've thought about this a lot lately and I truly think a lot of it is there are just way more inexperienced boaters on the water now than 10-15 years ago. Not everybody grew up starting in a flat bottom, then a stick steer, then a small bass boat. Now days, people are starting out in 75 mph fiberglass rockets, carrying 250 lbs of explosives, with no brakes. Not a good scenario and I'm surprised there hasn't been more accidents.

The courtesy and etiquette on the water is just not there like it was. I was on Rayburn a couple of weeks ago during that High School Tourney, 400 plus boats I think? Fishing in an area that was full of teams, I chose the very windy side of a gut to stay out of their way. I look up, and here's a small boat, with a kid sitting on the front pedestal, the guy driving at the speed that the boat is trying to get on plane. There were stumps where they were driving, if they'd hit one, that kid would have went for a swim. Bad deal #1. They then decided they wanted to fish a bush that was about 100' in front of where I was working towards, they pull up, shut it down and start fishing. Bad Deal #2. I thought long and hard about that. On one hand, I applaud the gentleman for taking those 2 boys out for that tournament, on the other hand, complete lack of safety and complete lack of etiquette. I could not decide if I should politely tell them that doing that was not a good way to act, or just let it go and let those 2 boys think that was ok. I chose to just turn around, I figured that them fishing that day was more important than me calling out their idiot driver.

I wish that there was a way to get people to understand some basic courtesy on the water, but I'm not sure there is.

I subscribe to the school of calling safety issues out to people. It doesn't bother me a bit.

Fishing issues I've learned to move on or ignore, unless it's an obvious situation I can exploit for my own twisted entertainment , lol

About 2 weeks ago met a guy at a bridge. We were both idling to go under. He cleared the bridge first had it trimmed all the way up and I took a 2-footer over the front. He never even acted as if I was there. If he had waited 1 boat length longer it would have been a non incident. REALLY???

The other day on squaw creek their was a media team tournament out there and I took dad out to just a little fun fishing. I just want to apologize to whoever was in the green and black wrapped Chevrolet boat dad and I were going to fish this bank a good 100 yards in front of him and my trolling motor quit working and the wind blew us right in on him so fast it wasn't funny I had to start the big motor to get us out of there I said I'm so sorry bud and he said I already messed it up anyways but I just wanted to apologize one more time he had his little boy on the boat with him as well and I in no way was wanting to fish that tree that the wind blew us into that you were on. Sorry guy I hope we didn't mess up your fishing

The best are guys fishing in marked boat lanes that get pissed when you run by them on plane. I saw this a couple times on Toledo during TTT. I don't blink an eye running by them.

Yeah, the stuff you see today is amazing. I've had my marker buoy literally run over before on Lewisville. Another time on Grapevine with a buddy, we were fishing 20 yds from the bank. We see a kayaker coming towards us from a ways off down this straight bank. This paddling mother splits my boat and the bank, timing his approach & departure with precision between our casts. Dude didn't say a word or turn his head. I was so dumbfounded at what took place I couldn't respond. My brain wouldn't wrap around it.

Yup, I'm glad I work shift work and get to fish during the week! I have gotten to where I don't even fish on the weekends for all the idiots!

If you stay in tiger fishing a beetle spin you don't have that problem. Its kind of ironic that the person that doesn't give anyone respect when they ask for a little advice is now complaining about not getting any respect. Funny how that works out.

I guess I will be on the opposite side of history, but I sort of disagree... I think it is more of a total volume issue. More people, so more chances of getting crossed by bad apples. There were always the type. Many run- ins while bank fishing when I was a kid, they just happen to be more visible, and there is an open forum to tell stories we didn't have before!

You're saying I don't give anyone respect when they ask for advice? Giving away information that I've spent countless hours on the water learning is called respect? Wow. Guess my interpretation of the word is a little different than yours.

It all goes back to what you learned as a kid, respect applies to everything in life. If you never had your [censored] whooped as a kid you might be missing something.

I'm 68 and used to fish tournaments back in the early 70's and I was forced to fish weekends because I wasn't retired back then.
I saw the same thing back then where people leave the courtesy and brains back at the dock. so nothing's changed.
The only thing that's changed since then is I'm retired now and I fish weekdays, but those folks are still out there, just fewer during the week.

Just one more cast!
