1. Fork - best lake in United States for 10+ pounders, 4-8 pounders, and a few days early summer for high numbers!
2. Squaw - especially cold weather months when other North Texas lakes shut down, you can get into great numbers, a few 4-5 pounders, and there are even a couple giants out there.
3. Texoma - can break your heart, but there are plenty of 10+ pound largemouth and certainly the #1 lake in North Texas for Smallmouth.
4. Ray Roberts - usually breaks your heart, but one of the few lakes in North Texas a 28+ lb bag is possible. there is so much fishable water on Roberts.
5. Ivie - struggled since the low water, but one of the all-star Texas big fish lakes.

Well, I'm shocked. Eagle Mountain Lake at least made two of these fisherman's list for a good fishing lake within 100 miles....Now, one day soon I hope, we can again find a launch ramp to use ONCE THE DARN THING RISES .... With pool level at 10' low, there is virtually nothing available to use, that I know of. Frustrating..... Maybe add: Lake Worth - close but, can be frustrating to fish! God Bless

I can't believe no one said PK......... 98 miles from Ft. Worth, so I guess that counts. would be in my top 10, I just don't think top 5. I CAN'T believe that Fork isn't on EVERY list. What don't you like about Fork? Fish not big enough? Not enough slots? Not enough timber to pitch? FYI, only reason I didn't put Athens on the list is I only considered major big lakes. I see why many would count it though. If I didn't disqualify it, I would have in Top 5.
