I doubt they freeze over......... Striper fishing all winter in GA. I can tell you they do. When you get there and they have frost on them the first one down is ok, but when he pulls up the ramp get wet and very very slippery. Many mornings I stopped only when the back tires got in the water and would have stayed there without 4X4. They can freeze over.

Swing by lowes and get you a few bags of sand and sand the ramp before you back down. But be carefull, once you break traction on a down hill slide you probably won't stop until the truck is floating. But I'd be more concerned about getting the boat back out once you get it in. Thats tough enough sometimes with just a wet ramp. Ice would be even tougher. The ramp will NOT freeze below the water line. When your back tires hit the water you will regain control if you are sliding. Don't be scared...do it! Just be sure to have someone videoing it for us!

My next post was going to say I figured they where all heated. I know I'm being a smart [censored] but I don't understand why someone would even ask if they freeze.

The fact that you asked this question gives me pause. The fact that I am a fairly new boat owner that wants to go fishing and am asking a question about safety before just going out and doing it gives you pause? I bet a lot of things give you pause.

The best thing we have used is the ashes out of our fire place. Just spread it out over any ice that is there to help get traction.

I wasn't aware any boat ramp was exempt from freezing.
