I went to Tawakoni last week with my buddy. We caught plenty of fish, big Hybrids, Whites, and Catfish. We had a nice 57 quart cooler full. I filleted the fish there and packed on Ice, Drove Home. These cats were 3-6 lbs each nice eater sized, mostly blues with a single channel cat. The Catfish ALL tasted like mud! Every one of them. I have eaten catfish out of Belton for the last 9 years with no complaints. Is there some special way of preparation for Tawak fish? Or do the muddy waters produce muddy tasting fish? I also noticed all the drinking water around the lake had a bad taste to it, could this cause the taste of the catfish? Don't get me wrong, I will be back, the fishing is outstanding, but I may only do catch and release in the future.

I have small round bucket maybe a gal. or a little more that has a flat side . I put a garden hose attachment on it so I can hook my hose to it. I turn the water on and throw my fillets in and it swirls them and washes them off great I also put my dove breast in it also. I bought it at Tractor Farm Supply

# 1 you gotta rinse the fire out of them #2. Soak them in salt water #3 Very important if your filleting stay off the skin = no red meat.....ewwwwwww
If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....

I put mustard on em and then my fish fry mix. Fry em up or bake em. They are super!

I give most of mine away .but I never heard no complaints on the quality of the fish from there we kept all different kinds I do know the young blue 1.5 lb and the crappie I ate from there one time tasted fine to me interesting to hear this ..... wonder if the low water levels have something to do with it ?

Put ice on the fish in cooler and wait a few hours afore ya clean em. Fillets will be white as snow and no blood in fillets. Works every time for nice white bloodless fillets. I prefer the 2 to 3 pounders for eatin! I rarely keep anything over 5 pounds if they is gonna get eaten.

Cut off their tail and let them bleed out. Without knowing more about how you handle your catch, this is the advice I would give too.

Our family eats plenty of cats outa twok. Fillet, soak in salt water 15-20min, rinse. I soak in mustard 30min prior to frying. We've never had a "bad" batch ever!!

Were your fish caught deep or shallow? I've been eating deep caught Twak blues for the last few weeks and they been fine...I always wash the fillets real hard in a 5 gal bucket and a hose spray nozzle until the foam stops rolling out the top.
