That was in the middle of mating season if I remember correctly. I bet it's 1000 to 1 drowning to gator attacks on south texas lakes. Wear your life jacket and don't worry about those big lizzards. If they are there then it's usually a good fishing spot in my experience. I agree with the good fishing part. The rest of it, not so much. I believe that could be considering harassment of the wildlife and it's also just plain stupid. I also believe the death rate is prob more along the lines of 1 to 5 million but it's still not smart.

It was during mating season. Good thing I'm not a good looking gator I guess. Point is there not vicious animals go fish have fun. Be aware that they are there and give them respect. The picture is of Mark Merchant he is a herpetologist and has been working with gators for 30 years. He and I have work with animals from all around the world and know there body language it's second nature to us. You can't do that to a crocodile but we don't have any in Texas.

That is sad! I just don't remember the Frio ever being down to just a trickle. We've had rains in the upper reaches of the Frio, and it's puzzling to see it that low. It may not be popular to point fingers and with no proof, but it may even be coincidence but the oil crews do use a lot of water in their fracking operations and Choke is located in the heart of the drilling. Even so, it's just something we now have to live with at the present, and it won't go on forever.

They were looking at drilling under the lake for sure. I'm not sure if anyone else remembers but not to long ago they had black boxes all over the north Shore of the lake with GPS on them. I was told the city of Corpus Christi was doing a volumetric survey to see if the lake can support fracking.

The lake has been dropping for years, it was 25' low before the flood that filled it. The only difference this time??? No floods.

Even if it fills the City of Corpus Christi owns the water so they will let it out fast to support the already quick dropping Lake Mathis. Shame. We need a flood and continuous rain to get and keep it like it was in the "good ole days".

Man that picture makes me sad. Almost a year ago I was at the 99 bridge in possum for work and could see a tree I pulled an 8-3 off of in 2009. It was about a mile from the water and surrounded by brush.
Amazing that places where we used to fish lush hydrilla beds in 10-15 fow have been dry for 5 years.
I really miss that place.

That's horrible. I just looked at the latest google satellite image. Everything I ever fished is out of the water.

And now for an actual report. Fished for 5 hrs on Saturday and caught 5 crappie. Water temp 62. I think this mud hole is turning into the dead sea. I should have stuck with the nueces for those magnum whites.
