I got it!!!... after some serious pondering I think I know what's so special about those lil "thump froggies". I'm thinking crappie are highly attracted to the abdominal section/abs of those lil dudes... (just look at that definition) and of course they are head over heals for pigeon toed!! They just may be color blind but they surely aren't figure blind!! Lane... you're a genius man!! Whatcha think?? Did I hit the head on the nail?

It's not the bait it's the guy holding the rod and targeting bigger fish. There is a method to the madness. Location location location. It's Kirks style of fishing and goals he has set figuring out a big fish pattern with many hours on the water. fish

I do think the Thump Jumper has something to do with it. I've been saying it for years, just as you said it last year Tommy, creature style baits catch bigger fish when used appropriately and confidently.

Kirk, who is arguably the most talented outdoorsman that I've ever hunted and fished with, just makes it look really, really good. Thanks again for the good word Kirk, I'm pumping out a lot of Thump Jumpers today.

Of coarse the bait is part of it. Late getting my coffee in me and didn't intend for it to sound that way.

I had baits, scents and people's expectations on my mind. Got to be on them to catch them. Nothing will literally attract them except cover.

I believe 110% that convenience is key.

I am thinking like Kyron, I don't have a clue why the Frog will out preform any other baits that I use. Yes, you can catch them on anything, I agreed with that. Hell I caught crappie using a beer can, to prove that point once.

I will say this, I was two polling with a Frog and a Rocky Top the other day, I thought a bigger bait would displace more water and would be easier for the crappie to see in that deep water.

For what ever reason I caught 3 fish on that Frog and 1 on the Rocky Top. Why???? Luck???? Who knows.

I don't know or understand how well a crappie can see, it stands to reason that crappie can see a bigger bait, better and I believe that they can see it better. So why do they eat that little frog? Is it confidence in the bait or is it the abs like Kyron said?

Tommy, I understand what your saying and thanks, I know you weren't knocking the bait and I didn't take it that way.

I just posted that 1-800-EAT-FROG HOT LINE post just to give Lane a hard time because I thought it was funny. I actually had a lot bigger fish on the last couple trips. Just poking at Lane and trying to put a little fun back in the TFF.

I will stop using the Frogs, when they tell me they want something else.

Kyron, piegon toed! Is that's it!

How did you come up with that? Well, I am going to start bending their toes if that's what it takes.

Have a good one buddy, your going to need that mask this weekend.

So, does anyone understand the crappie's eye sight or how well they can see or do they feed mostly off vibration? Water clarity surly plays apart in it also.

Their vision is something I want to understand better.

I bet Ken may know the answer.

Ain't I the one that turned you on to the Magic Frogs that night on Lavon?? If that's the case, for every 38 fish you've caught since, you owe me 1. Which means I probably have a 5,000 fish credit with you sir. de bolt

I sat in on a crappie "town hall meeting" and they were ranting and raving over pigeon toed baits...lol

On a more serious note, you're right about this weekend. It's shaping up to be brutal brother. I'm ready for the elements though...I think.

I've been working to prove out my theory over the last year but I'll declare to be on the fence for now.. I believe color selection is important "at times" but I'm not sure that crappie identify color in the same way that we do. I had an interesting conversation with Todd Huckabee last year and he's fully persuaded that crappie are color blind. Now to his credit he's had a pretty good crappie fishing career under this premise. It takes a while to prove something like this out though because you have so many other variables. Confidence being one of them. I'm a believer that you will not give a bait it's just time in the water if you have no confidence in it (especially when you have a go to). Water clarity certainly factors into the equation as well. I believe fishing pressure(the amount of people that fish a place) can be a factor also. It seems that there are times when crappie "get hip" to a certain jig profile and color/shade. This could very well be a reason in which the lil froggie is effective. It's unique and it does put of a good bit of vibration too. I believe I've been noticing that color contrast can assist with triggering a bite(a small percentage of the time.. but still) Just by adding a contrasting head, like a white or a black or even a lead head has assisted me in activating schools of fish. I'm leaning towards the contrast in the lure profile (head, body, tail) as being the culprit vs the actual color of the jig head being the stimulant. Just a few observations that I've made while out on the water. What do you guys think? Bologna?
