Also Hookers Baits. On the left before the ICW on 332 going into Surf side. Building looks like a boat.

....glad I logged on tonight and read this thread. Saw a pic this weekend of two Flatties that were caught right under the same area that were both up around 27"-30". When the friend told me about this I called BS of course, but after seeing the timestamped pics with a good friends boat in the background that I could verify it was true. Those Sows either were eating in the back marsh as it was full of bait or being so darn big they have gone through menopause and just don't give a [censored] anymore.
...so good it tastes like it died screaming!

I haven't been out to SLP in probably 20 years. Are the fishing piers still out there near the causeway off of bluewater, or did the hurricanes finish them off? If I remember right, there were 2 of them. Sam's pier, it was falling apart in the early 90s when I used to fish down there, and the SLP pier.

The guy that ran the SLP pier tried to get donations to help him rebuild but not enough money was raised.

That's too bad, I spent many a night fishing on the SLP pier. I got third place in the speckled trout division one year in the fishing fiesta on a speck I had caught off of that pier. Sam's pier I had gone to once or twice, I just remember there being planks missing in the pier large enough that a man could fall through and that it swayed really bad when a breaker would hit.

I was down there around this time last year... Caught some flounder off the dock on Gulp Alive Shrimp on a lead jighead
If fishing was easy, they'd call it catching

I have been fishing for redfish for over 20 years and have "never" used crab. I know very well that redfish love crab, but I have never used them, and frankly I do no know how they are used. I plan a trip down to Rockport soon, so could someone please share with me the procedures? Thanks,

Make the leader about 2 feet long. Break off the legs and claws, cut the crab in half and thread the circle hook through the leg holes. Cast out as far as you can. Light a small fire on the beach with driftwood and cook the claws while your waiting on a bite. Delicious!

I have always been recommended steel leader instead on mono.

Thanks for that tidbit. Is there a particular size that matters? Are crabs available at bait stores or do you catch your own? Thanks again.
