To start with, I'm 74 years old, and have been fishing some 66 years of that.

When I started fishing for bream at about 8 years old, it was with a cane pole and black braided, I think linen line. That was the only line available, and everyone used this black line, and everyone caught lots of fish, bream, crappie, catfish and bass using this black line. Then nylon mono came along and most everyone changed to it.

When gold stren came out, I started using it, because I could see it and lots of strikes you don't feel, just your line jumps.

I always hated the curling of mono, and when fluiri came out, I spooled a spinning rod with it, laid it in my boat, and all that fluoro ame off the reek into the boat, That's the first and last fluoro I ever bought.

Power Pro braid came out and I immediately called the factory and they sent me a spool to try, and since then braid is all I use,

Anyone who says line color scares bass is full of you know what.h
Let me tell you what factor about line scares bass: It's shadow. If the line, while in the air, passes over a bass, the shadow will scare the bass. All lines, even fluoro, has a shadow. Underwater no line scares bass as they can't tell it from a string of moss, etc. I have had bream and small bass strike my line where it enters the water.

These are my humble opinions after 75 years of fishing and you can have your own. For twenty dollars and my opinions, you can buy a spool of braaid or fluoro.

Whatever you use, good fishing.

Enjoyed your post. I'm with you on the fluorocarbon. Don't like it but can't knock it cause too many pros making a living with it. Never thought about the line making a shadow but like you, I've never been real concerned about line color. I crappie fish with Hi Vis line and the bright color doesn't seem to make a difference on what goes in the ice chest.

What size Power Pro Braid do you use? Same size for all your reels? I ask because I still use mono and was considering trying something else.

I have 50# Power Pro on 17 reels and each one is tied with something different. I catch no matter what.
