I have a 2001 Mercury 225 and I changed the lower unit oil yesterday. Went to the lake today and after I loaded the boat back on the trailer I noticed the lower unit oil is leaking out of the top screw? I checked the screw and it is tight. Anyone ever heard of or had this issue??

Did you inspect or put on a new screw gasket? I use new ones each time since I'm afraid of a leak

Sometimes the gasket can stay stuck to the gearcase / or fall off and you not catch it...
Check lower unit for water also and replace gaskets with new ones.

Check gasket. But also check with Sevice Manual. I know my '01 250 EFI requires to fill, then allow 2 oz to drain out before putting plug in. This is imperative for pressure build up in gear case.

Gasket/washer missing or needs replaced. Lower unit overfilled. Cracked oil plug housing.
Nothing else I can think of can/should cause it.

Check to make sure there are not 2 gaskets. Sometimes the old one stays in there and is hard to see. If 2, it will leak for sure. It is a common mistake.
