Are peddle kayaks, specifically the Mirage Drive Hobie, fishable in shallow water and flats. Have considered the purchase of a Hobie Revo 13 but the fishability in skinny water such as costal creeks and marshes have me concerned. Allot of these areas you may have to navigate in a water less than a foot and and also shallow water with shell below. Seems like a recipe for problems with damaging the drive. Is it not a big issue to remove the drive during these situations or is a pain in the backside?

If the water isn't too skinny you can just "feather" the fins. Too skinny for that you just pull it up. I always tether it though just in case.
The Mirage drive is pretty tough.

I guess it ultimately depends on how often you're in less than knee deep water. Although feather-kicking the drive system will work it does get tiresome after awhile. The benefit of the Revo (because it paddles so well) is that if you're in too shallow of water you can just kick one leg forward and use the bungee to keep the drive fins slat against the hull while you paddle.

Been fishing Hobies in the marshes around the Houston, Freeport, Sabine areas for a few years now. The Adventure (now the Revo 16) and all Revolution models are excellent in shallow flats. Pull the Mirage drive out and paddle or pole in 3". I don't use the Outback in the marsh as it's noisy (hull slap) but it does has some advantage as you can stand and site fish better. My red fish tournament boat is a Revo 13. Excellent in the shallows and wonderful to cover distance/water.

I fish my Sport in shallows. As stated above just short stroke it. I carry a paddle as well but seldom use it.

You'd be surprised at how shallow you can be while still feathering the fins. As mentioned above, you can hold them flat againt the hull with the supplied bungee or it takes about 3 seconds to take the drive out. The only real problem is trying to take out the drive once you're too shallow. It's a PITA. You either have to find deeper water or get out and lift up on the yak.
