Hey guys I'm new to the forum and I was wondering if you had 2 bait caster combos both 7' MH rods and a 6:4:1 reels on both what would your next combo be. Rod length/action/gear ratio on reel and line. Thanks

For me it would be a heavier rod for punching or flipping heavy cover with texas rigs and jigs, etc. Something like 7'6" Heavy action and a high speed (7:1 or higher) reel and since you also mentioned line it would be at least 20# flourocarbon if not braid depending on the cover.

It depends on the kind of baits you fish with. If you fish with crankbaits, a crankbait rod would be a good edition. For all except the very heavy, deep diving cranks, a rod with Medium power and a Moderate action works well for throwing crankbaits. There are specialty rods for frogs, swim baits, finesse baits, etc. The MH rods you have actually work for many applications, i.e. can be used as all-around rods. If you do not have a spinning rod, it too would be a good addition -- to use when you need to use finesse applications. My two cents.

I would get a 7' Medium Action. I use my MH every now and then for a jig when I want to try something different but don't want to cut the bait off of my heavy flipping rod.
I use my Medium Actions almost exclusively for weightless flukes and jerkbaits and spooks.
I've thrown them on MH, but prefer the Medium.
I would much rather use the lures I typically throw with my H action on the MH than to use the lures I throw on my M action on my MH.
But I'm just a rookie. Been fishing a long time, but still catch like a rookie..........

MH can vary a lot between brands. If you current MHs are on the heavy side, I'd get a medium for weightless, small topwaters, drop shot, jerkbaits, etc If your current MHs are on the lighter side, I'd go with heavy for flipping, frogs, big heavy baits

My next one would be a pitching/flipping stick, 7'3"-7'6" heavy- X heavy with a high speed reel with 15-25lb flouro line!

Do you fish with heavy jigs or light cranks and senko stuff more. If it's jigs, get a flipping stick. If light stuff, get a medium action.

I would go into medium/moderate to throw crankbaits. Reel doesn't have to be any different its a preference really. You ask 3 fisherman and you might get 3 different answers about reel speed. Any can be used. I prefer the fast reel because I can always slow my retrieve. As far as brand I would stick with what you have if you like them because it will be familiar.

I use four combos when I fish so I know your situation. If it were me and I have to MH rods with two 6 ratio reels this is what I would do:
Buy a medium rod and move one of the 6's to that rod for square bills. Buy a 5 ratio reel and move it to one of the MH rods you already have for deep diving crank baits. Leave one of your MH/6 ratio combos for spinner baits or what ever. Purchase a Heavy action long rod and high speed reel for TX rig / pitching jigs or what ever.
I just got this last combo myself and went with the heaviest 7 foot falcon bucco and am getting a diawa tatula type r 8 ratio reel this weekend for it.

I fished most of my life with three rigs.....I almost am embarrassed now when there's 8 combo's on the deck.... Simpler times were better.
I could fish any technique I can think of with two m/h and one heavy.... 6.4 ratio reals and McCoy's on all of them!
