Going across the lake this past weekend, motor was running fine. Cranked up fixing to move to another spot. Going across the lake at 55mph and the motor just shuts down like it ran out of gas. Didn't have any issues all day. Any ideas? It will not crank at all now. If I spray starter fluid around intake it will crank up, but then shuts off.

My 2002 Yamaha 150 hp did something very similar one day, changed the fuel pumps and filter still would not run right( hard to start and not make any power) and it ended up being the primer bulb, just saying don't overlook the simplest fixes first, hope you get it fixed soon.

Thanks that's why I posted here, I took it to the shop and he said $1000 to change fuel pump. Not sure if he even knew if that was the problem.

If it is the low pressure pumps like the 200' they are $40 each and not hard to change.

A lot of these motors have a fuel pump relay and a fuse for same that you need to check.

You will need to get a manual specific for your model

This happened to mine, A piece of tape came loose and clogged the fuel pump. In turn the pump wasn't getting fuel to cool it either, so it burned up. Around 200 dollar fix if my motor wasn't under warranty.
