Wish that place was a little closer to dfw! Ahh, it ain't so bad. Drive down early on Sat morning listening to outdoor shows on AM radio, then drive back talking about all the fish you caught. Gas is cheap too right now. No excuses! lol not a bad idea now just tell me where to put my boat in at! or at least where to drive too!
I only fish on days that end in Y!

benp, one good place to go is Riverridge. Go to Carthage and take FM 699 south towards US 84. After several miles,( I am not sure how many, maybe 8 or 10)look for Private Road 831 on your left if coming from Carthage. There is a sign there indicating Riverridge fishing and camping. Take that road about a mile and your there. You can launch your boat from their ramp. I think there is a small fee, say $5 or $10. they are really catching there now. Hope this helps.

Oh the fools do come out. Good thing is, they usually don't impact the fishing too much. They are the ones running up and down the river all day while the more capable find a pattern, work it, and put numbers in the boat.

lol there are fools everywhere, and there are those that just have not learned or been taught. I was one once, we all were. I got alot of info from guys here on the forum, but also did alot of hiking/trial and error and spent much time the last few years learning, I have read posts about the Sabine River and always wanted to check it out. maybe one day! I most likely will not make it this year, but one day...!

The only skill needed as a guide for fishing the shoals is getting there. If you have a shallow running boat and patience it ain't rocket science. Learning the rest of that river and how to find the sandies is where the real skills come into play. I've been fishing it for 8 years and I'm still learning.

I've never gone up to the shoals to fish, so i wouldn't know about it up that far.
But you are right about fishing downstream. I too learn something new every time I'm there. Rarely ever get to fish the same pattern one week to the next. I've seen the river drop 2' over a couple days and completely change where the fish were holding.
