What are y'all's opinions on yamalube? Are there better options for a better value.

Hard to say. Everyone claims to have added their own secret ingredients. This is a good question for some mechanics who have torn apart motors with extended use of specific oils, but even that's iffy because you don't know what all had been run through that motor. I thought Yamalube was expensive at $28/gal, but the XD-100 oil for Evinrude is ever higher. Supposedly the computer in the rude regulates oil consumption instead of a fixed volume being injected regardless of load on the motor.

I buy it in bulk at sonny's in POC, but I'll flop between yamalube and merc oil, for one very unscientific observation, if it's really cold, under 28 degrees, the yamalube gets a bit thick, merc oil doesn't. 99% of the time that certainly a non issue, but makes you think a little.

I'm running Pennzoil Premium Plus in my Ox66 after switching over from Citgo. It seems to like it just fine so far.

You have to watch the Penzoil marine stuff. Some of it is made by Shell for Penzoil.Shell makes good stuff by just saying. Sometimes your not buying what you think you are. If it says SOPUS on the bottle then Shell made it.

Im still running my 1995 Mariner 3.0 225hp. After all this time I have ran some quicksilver oil buy most of whats be in it is the CHEAP WAL MART STUFF. As said before everyone will tell you we add ?????? to oir oil to make it better. Its a sales thing. For one thing not one marine engine maker makes oil. Just like in my KENWORTH with a 550hp cat. I have NEVER added anything to my oil I just run the CHEAPEST oil I can find at the time. People tell me that may not be a good thing. But after 1.6million trouble free miles. I still think the cheap stuff works.

My 2001 Vmax has probably hundreds of hours on it since I bought it new. In the beginning I ran Yamalube, then switch to Quicksilver Premium Plus, then Citgo, then Pennzoil Premium Plus for the last 6 or so years. Engine runs darn near as good as day one. I do run a decarbon additive though.

No SOPUS on the Pennzoil Premium Plus.
