No, I am not a poet; it's a legit quextion. lol. I am looking forward to purchasing a yak, undecided as to what brand yet, however; I have a pick-up truck that will be used to transport yak, and, at times I will also be pulling a travel trailer.
The question is, what type of over-cab rack could I get that will support, sturdily, a yak for long distance travel? And, does the shape of the yak anchored over the cab greatly affect the handling of the vehicle? Is there a great amount of lift on the yak at 65 mph?
Thanks to all who have experience with this issue, and I do appreciate the information.

I have the same question. Who has experience with cab over racks. We would be hauling multiple kayaks for demos and events.

I haul two boats on my rack while pulling a 30' travel trailer with no issues. It will effect your fuel mileage but not much more then pulling a 30' travel trailer causes. I have pulled like this to Rockport with no issues other then noise.

I use a ladder rack for my p/u because I haul some pretty long touring kayaks and didn't feel comfortable with them hanging off of the back of my truck or towing then around on a trailer. And since I tend to be a belt and suspender kind of guy, it allows me to keep an eye on my yak while I'm driving. Works for me. I have attached a pair of j hook and have carried two 16 foot kayaks at highway speeds without incident or real concern, but have noticed some push in high wind gusts, but nothing to cause concern. I use a yakima bar rack over the cab and I made a rear rack out of 2x4's that go in the stake holes in the back. Works well with the travel trailer. I notice no difference going 70. I use a rachet strap over the top at both racks and two ropes in a V off the front to the front truck tow hooks.

I have a Thule 1 bar roof mount rack and I use a hitch mount bed extender that I mount straight up like a goal post. I haul two boats, a 15' Native FX and a 12' SOT. I drive down the interstate at 75 mph. Never had a problem. Makes a little wind noise in the cab, but not too much. Haven't noticed a big difference in fuel mileage, but at the end of a long day, they can seem a little heavy when loading on top of the truck. Can't pull a trailer with bed extender in receiver, but have thought about getting someone to weld me a custom hitch with my extender on it so I could pull a camper or something too. This is a pic of one boat on the truck if you can see it. It was close to dark when I took it.

How does that rack fit onto your truck cab? ?strapped through cab? ?clamp onto gutters? I made my own but if you don't have the tools you could find a fabricator to make you one. Here are some ideas. The one I made is on the first page. Truck racks

Your question is hard to answer because of not knowing which truck you own. If you have a crew cab, the ideal setup is a pair of crossbars over the cab. This balances your kayaks over the entire length of the truck and leaves your bed 100% open for cargo and/or gear. Other popular options include bed extenders or telescopic up/down crossbar racks that mount at the four corners of your bed. A ladder rack is great but will expensive and cumbersome to remove.
I would be happy to talk with you in detail.

This is a pic of one boat on the truck if you can see it. It was close to dark when I took it. The Thule bar attaches to two feet that clamp onto the roof. It does not scratch my paint and is easy to remove and put back on. It also does not cause my doors to leak. I used to have a roof rack that used a strap that went inside the cab. It caused my door seals to leak even when the rack was not on the truck. I DO NOT recommend on of those.
